I shot around five rounds of 105 MM and with in three minutes she went down. She had oil on Deck and dry cargo in her hull, I was thinking it would have needed more rounds to do the job,it seems like the victory ships go down faster than the Liberty ships do. I could be wrong here.  It seems like the C3 are the hardest to sink.

Shots do have a more telling effect on fuel and ammo areas
also guns etc as debris impacts from flying stuff actually adds
to the damage.
or at least it does on your sub I have had enough aircraft and bits
and peices of them and a few black swans land on my afterdeck
to know that much at least for certain.
if you have the good recognition manual it will show
engines (immobilizes)
fuel (sets afire)
ammo(causesmajor damage)
or Cargo (damaging if explosive)
also of course when in range and able always shoot for the
waterline
waiting time helps ships may be doomed long before they show sunk.
when approaching from over the horizon as I close a ship
I will sequence like this.
aim for supertructure at max range as that is what can be seen
crossing 5000 metres I switch to aim for weapons to reduce
the potential enemy hitting power as I close crossing 3000
I switch to aim for waterline.
I do occasionally use aim for hull as a sort of auto setting coverall.
but I still always change to waterline as I cross three thousand.

according to my research the voctory ships as a class were not launched until 1944... and only 2 of the ships of the victory class were sunk in the atlantic by U-boats.
Liberty ships on the other hand... over 2700 were built between 1941 and 1945. the idea was to build them as fast as - or faster - than the U-boats could sink them. Rushed production meant poor rivets and bad welds... several boats "Fell apart" during their voyages breaking in half without warning in heavy seas.
if anything - you should almost never run into a victory ship inless its around August 1944 or later - and if any ship should be an easy kill it should be the Liberty ship.

The problem is that welds wont give as much as rivets. A ship with rivets can torque a bit,...a welded ship cant.
Early on when the liberty ships would sink like dropping a 8:00 class they were made of cheap steel and (as mentioned) has serious structural problems as a result of the chemical metallugurical result of the conditions they were subjected to. The steel kept cracking in the middle of the ship and all it took was 1 torperdo under the bow and it'd sink.
The solution which came later was simple, they took a huge steel beam and welded it across the bow on both sides to keep the integrity of the ship. Historically at least it stopped them from getting sunk so easily (or just breaking without being attacked at all) once the fix was applied to all the ships. While it'd be interesting to implement that aspect of the history of the Victory ships into the game, I fear it'd be a painfull item to implement (although being a good programmer, admit I've been lazy and haven't looked at any modding tools yet :dead: )
