on my tenth patrol, 84% realism, transferred from kiel in January 1941 to Lorient and took command of a Type IX.

Heading out of Lorient for a patrol somwhere in the area of AM 32 i guess it was.

it was about midnight, when my watch crew spotted a submarine. I kept trolling along at slow speed and didnt think twice about it. Type VIIs and IX boats are always in and out of the bay of biscay. But for some reason i thought i better at least look into it a bit more closely.

Closed slowly to within about 1200 meters and looked through the UZO. I'll be darned, its not one of ours. I couldnt find any way to identify it in the book so i left the solution plot and ID to the weapons officer.

took her out with one torpedo right under the watch tower. she sank within a matter of perhaps 20 - 30 seconds.

anyone else run across allied subs during their patrols? (using GWX)

later i made several blitzkrieg type attacks on a convoy. as i made my way back to base one of the escorts cought me on the surface at sunrise and opened fire, the shells flying overhead and splashing into the water on the port side were the first indication we had of the incoming destroyer - and he was close too... perhaps 3000 meters? i ordered a crash dive. the second shells landed on the starboard side. his third shot hit the bow torpedoe room and caused moderate flooding.

"WHY WONT YOU DIVE YOU FAT PIG??!!" i remarked - his 4th shots screamed over the watch tower by a matter of inches as it slipped beneath the surface.

i wasnt worried about making noise - he knew good and well where i was, he started zig zagging toward me and i was at flank speed - ordered 150 meters and keep the speed up for a good rate of descent.

survived a severe depth charging

got back to base and got my VIIC back!!! hahahaha

I saw one in place as a Convoy escort, I'm 90% sure he even pinged me...

Ugly boats compared to the ones we get :)

Same area, only a little more North-West, and had to wait for a lone DD to pass out of listening range before I started my attack.
I only had one torpedo and it was a steamer and it was a clear still morning.
I crept into about 1200 meters at just below standard with the torp door open.
Let loose the eel, she tracked true and level at just below surface level with magnetic pistol and medium speed.
I think the S class saw the bubble trail as she increased speed and turned hard to port;
big mistake as that put her inline with an aft impact.
The torpedo detonated on her hull just outside the rudder and screws,
blowing them clean off. She sagged a bit sputtering sickly and slipped
quietly into the deep after about 20 minutes. It was tempting to surface
and finish her with deck guns, but I stayed still and watched. Good thing
too as their captain must have ordered the radio man to signal for help.
Enemy aircraft swept the area, but failed to detect me and the surface
war ships didn't start to arrive until after I was long on my way home.

Ichi...

I was on my 8th patrol, heading to a grid west of gibraltar. I was north of Stornoway, sea was heavy, wind about 15m/s and fog heavy, when my watch crew shout "Ship spotted" in German, I think they said Shieft gesichtsteed?:D

Anyway, I quickly went to Nav map and check to see if there's a ship nearby, at 90% realism I still use map contact update :p . The map didn't show anything, so I went to watch tower and look through the UZO. I scanned around and there it was, bearing 150 deg, an S class submarine.

They started to shooting ... I ordered my crew to man the flak gun to return fire... but they told me that they can't man the gun in this weather condition. So I ordered ahead flank and periscope depth. Meanwhile, my boat were taking damage ... nothing serious ... but still...

While my was diving I went to the periscope and prepared the stern tubes. I set stern torps at 2 m deep, impact pistol. I watch the s class in my persicope, it was only 200 m behind me. So I waited a while longer until the distance got to 300 m or more. when the distance was 310m, I fired my torp. But then since fog was heavy, the sub slowly disappeared into the fog. Affraid that the first torp dud and that I might lose the s class in the fog completely, I fired my second torp. Just a few second after the second torp left the tube, the first torp hit the target and sent it down ... poor b@$t@rd@:D

edit: I meant "Type S" submarine ... not mercedez "S class" ... :D

I sank one in BF13.

You could always go to Lerwick and get another one . . .
