Now ive read all the post I can find on this subject so now Im gonna ask for myself.I realize there are time differences etc. implemented into the game but I still dont understand. Its 3am in my world(SH3),Im just a little southeast of Scapa Flow on the game map,and its broad daylight.Local time display says 03:00.Is this correct or am I out of sync timewise?

Hey! Scotland in the summertime, it's daylight all night long. Close to it anyway if I remember correctly. It's the high latitude.
In the high latitudes like Scapa, you never get real darkness from May to August or September. Real life Kaleuns bitched about it a lot.

If you let your mouse pointer on top of the display it will show the Local Time. The time the game uses by default is GMT. That's why you see the sun rising at 3:00 in the morning etc.

I'll answer this seeing as i live in Scotland yes in some days it starts getting light as early as 2am and doesent get dark till nearly midnight. So some days we get 2 hours of darkness and at that its more a twilighty effect not true darkness its annoying as hell:huh:

I found out about it kinda accidentally when I was doing my 9th patrol last weekend :D second career, first career lasted only 6 patrols. Mouse pointer was on top of the time in nav map and then it shows "local time" I wondered what it was at first, then I realized that maybe it's the current time at the time zone I was currently in.

Do you mean dark as in night time, or is the sky just a solid black?

If its dark as nigth thats about right for that time of year in scotland i should know i stay here it gets dark at about 2/3pm and gets light about 9/10 am and the further north you go the darker it gets and the longer it stays dark:up:

I thought it was local time and German time? I know this is what they used on the boats historically.

Historically Germans were using German Time instead of Local Time in all branches of the Armed Forces. In Game though the time on the clock is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). You can see that if you start from any German Port. Germany is GMT+1 and you will notice that the Local Time is one hour ahead of the "game time".

And now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

Post Script on this problem:
Heres what happened to me regarding this problem.
I play at 1xtc,I force 1x thru SH3 Commander options(i set max time compression to 1).So as most dedicated 1Xers i use ALT-TAB alot.
Let me state here that this was a phenomenom that happened with my particular game settings and may not pertain to anyone else ,but if it does here is what transpired and you can remember it IF it happens to you.
The game engine on this sim is touchy to say the least, and sometimes we cant get an engine to conform to everything we want it to do so we conform to it.
I experienced this perpetual night deal.
Not a blacked out sky but just a normal starry, cloudy night.
So Im suspicious that something aint right here.
OK so I exit the game and save patrol and decide to see just how long this will last.So I turn max time compression up thru SH3 Commander and decide Ill time compress at 512 and see just how long this night will last.
POW! as soon as I hit the plus and start to speed up time it goes daylight on my Nav map,not only that but the weather changes and a friggin merchant ship pops up on my map(you know the one thats 500 kms away)
What I think happened with me:
ALT-TAB had somehow frozen the game engine or whatever controls the progression of the sun, moon, weather and maybe even the random ship spawning .Time compressing seemed to kick start it up again?
In short ALT-TAB can screw you up .I went back in at 1X and ran the game for 24 hour period without ALT-TAB at all and all seems to be running ok,although I think I have the realistic or intended day to night sequence out of whack,I can put up with it til next patrol where it should reset at beginning in mission files.
