View Full Version : My 'freezes' in SH3 were nothing to do with GWX 1.02

Just to set the record straight for anyone who remembers my thread on lock-ups or freezes just after I installed GWX 1.02.
It was a coincidence. I got a freeze today whilst 'only' running Word, Excel, Mulberry (email) and Windows Media Player.
So my apologies to the GWX guys for even thinking it was down to their excellent work!
As for the problem, I suspect Media Player but don't know for sure. I'm thinking if it was something like a heat problem I'd be kicked to a reboot rather than a screen lock? The lock is complete by the way, no getting out of it with Ctl-Alt-Del, needs a restart.

Thanx for that
Most ppl never post the outcome of a problem
Let alone rule out the thing they first blamed
Kudos
What media player do you have installed ?

Glad to hear it wasn't GWX. Some of you may also remember my freeze and COD problems. Again after extensive trial and error I dont believe it is GWX causing the problem. I can see now that my crashing problems ALWAYS result from loading a saved game in patrol, if I start a patrol from in base I have no crashing at all. From what I've read on the forums here, this is a stock SH3 problem that has never been fixed. It has gotten so bad that I dont bother playing unless I can complete an entire patrol without having to save, because crashing over and over trying to continue a patrol is just too frustrating. If anyone knows of a fix please let me know, but from what I've read all you can really do is save while surfaced with no other ships around, sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesnt.

bbw - Windows Media Player 11. Don't know why but it just seems to do odd things and as a new upgrade it falls into the 'what happened just before your problem' category. I'm probably totally wrong about it but we'll see ;).
scalelokt - sorry to hear you're still having trouble, sounds a lot worse than mine. Hopefully someone can help!

Are you running an old (ie pre 1.5) version of SH3 Weather?
