In that movie I noticed a lot of the same sounds as sh3 :shifty: and the smoke blew away at 100 mph on a flat calm :shifty: but that can be fixed explosions looked good :hmm: and sea bottom cool :hmm: crew looked excellent! :o ships detail was excellent

Definitely a lot of recycled sounds there. Considering SH4 is a stand-alone full release and not being sold as an expansion to SH3, I'm surprised at the reclaiming of SH3's old sounds. To be fair though, that in-game clip was from a beta build, so hopefully Pacific theatre and US sub appropriate sounds made it into the final build (though based on Ubi's track record, I'm not holding my breath).
Let's give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully we're in for a pleasant surprise.

I noticed the fast smoke too. And why the heck did the USN buy the diesels in Germany, they sound just like the uboat ones in SHIII :D
Yeah i am kinda worried now.. concidering the Dev team said there was still lots to do after it went gold :-?
It seems an awful lot of sounds have been reused, from the torp launch to the hatch closing when diving
I also thought that first when I saw the video, but then I remembered that it was a purpose built video, edited with added music and such. May be the sound capture was not good enough (Or even inexistent to save memory...also does FRAPS capture sound???) and the sounds were added later...
Anyway sounds were external sound files -uncoded- in SH3 and I suppose they still are in SH4 so it will be some of the easiest to mod.:ping:
Edited to add: That riiiiiiiiiiiiiing from the bell comes surely from SH3, I think that in US boats it was a claxon that sounded several times, not a continuous "ring". Probably that all comes from SH3 and was added to the video....

Why would an American hatch make a different noise than a German one? Why should a torpedo launch from an US sub sound different than a torpedo launch from a German sub?:o:roll:

Indeed.

Technically, the germans put a piston head behind the torpedo, this limiting the problem of air escaping from the tube but also making the reload much more difficult.
So I suppose that when the piston head hits the end of the tube, you might get a different sound vs the US subs.

my biggest sound gripe with SH3 was the lack of any destroyer props when u were submerged. the only time u heard them was when the dd was directly overhead. i dunno how many hours i spent messin about with sound files so i could hear a dd at distance getin closer and closer. SH1 was fine and i think SH2 was ok as well but not SH3.
surely it cant be that hard to make a distant sound quiet and as it gets closer it gets louder

Hmmm, well what you describe Laffertytig is exactly what I get in SHIII! Maybe not from a huge distance(300-400 meters or so?), but I can most certainly here a DD drawing nearer and growing distant as it moves overhead(within a few hundred meters or so). I can even tell what direction it's moving in!
Did you ever consider it may be your hardware? I list my sound hardware below.
Cheers

I was desappointed to see that flag waving on the mast in the same position even underwater. Also.....the ships bouncing on the seafloor after sinking....c'mon :(

could be the case but i recently purchased a new motherboard with onboard sound and still suffer the problem. maybe a soundcard is required to play SH3 to its full potential.

Well, if they have recycled the sound FX, then that's ok. I think they spent all their time on improving the really important stuff like the mission/campaign structure. The Modding community can add their own, acurate sound FX anyway.

There is a simpler way to hear them : stick your ears behind the hydrophone, that's what it's made for.. :D Why should you hear them from inside the sub ?

Totally agree. Has everyone forgotten Pacific Aces? Do you remember the sounds in that?

Hmm at what cost no radio room,no cappy quaters, same sounds as sh3 ... a throw togther sim?? if theres a dd vs sub MP that would make up for the rest but just for a bit more eye candy no thanks,,,,,,

Criminny....I just hope they DID spend the time getting the mechanics right...
I would hate to think my GATO would run out of battery and require 48+ hours surface running to recharge (ahem....XXI from SH3), or my radios were constantly getting destroyed, or the AI convoys get into traffic jams....
The devs had LOTS to fix between SHIII and SHIV...I just hope they DID fix alot of these bugs...
