This was long overdue. We need a target date to leave Iraq, maybe it will give an increased sense of urgency to the Iraqi government and US authorities, that's really the best we can hope for right now. Its time to bring them home, for good. It seems that the vast majority of the American people share that opinion, and if the administration vetoes the bill...:damn: All I can say is don't be surprised if an override is attempted, because there are plenty of Republican congressmen that will likely realize that their political future might be tied to this bill.

That is more than a little naive on your part bradclark1. Congress votes based on what the congressional intellegence committees tell the members. Remember the seperation of powers thing? Those committees recommended the authorization based on the same intellegence that the administration was working from. As I recall even the UN, not to mention Britain, France, Germany, and Russia all had the same intellegence. Lets try not to rewrite history shall we.

I agreed with the decision to invade Iraq, put some teeth in the numerous UN resolutions, depose the dictator, search for WMDs, and set up a democratic govt. About a year ago I posted that imo it was time to hand the keys to the Iraq govt and say good luck! We can always go back in if we need to.

Try reading State Of Denial, or better yet talk to Scooter Libby, or listen to the vice president that we would have invaded anyway even without the WMD excuse.

It's OT, this topic is about leaving Iraq, not how we got there, but since it has been brought up that this war was apparently all the fault of the Democrats, despite not controlling either house of congress or the executive at the time, I need only say this: the United States would not be in Iraq right now if Bush had not been elected president. Bush appointed people to positions of power that were obsessed with taking down Saddam, regardless of the risks. Need proof? Some Democrats did vote for the war, but unlike most Republicans, they have realized what has become obvious to most of the US population, continued presence in Iraq is doing nothing but slowly destroying the military and taking the lives of some of our best young people, with no tangible benefit. It's time to leave, both Iraq and Neocon fantasy land.

It's time to take our troops off the line and train Iraqi forces. Only Arabs can do what it takes to control Arabs. Move those forces in Iraq now into Afghanistan and finish what we were supposed to do in the first place.

Agreed. We should have finished them off long ago, but the Bush administration never did seem that interested in Afghanistan, they were always focused on Iraq.:roll:
