Roughly one third in the congress are millionaires. Millionaires in the senate are forming close to half of it's members, climbing. But only less than 1% of American citizens make a 7 digit income per year.If this is considered to be representative - what do you expect, then? It' never the poor trying to prevent laws enforcing at least guaranteed minimum wages - it's always the rich, right?

I'm not sure what your response has to do with 'the first black president' but increasing minimum wages doesn't help the less advantaged in the long run, and more often than not leads to inflation which those working for minimum wages cannot obsorb.

I never said the rich were miserable because of their wealth. I was just pointing to the inflationary outcome of an increase in the minimum wage and how those it was meant to help will be the most hurt by the measure.
Either way its off topic.

And I hinted at that the rich always find a thousand questionable excuses why it is better for all if the poor stay poor. Your theories here and in the other thread, are queer, to say the least.

Small selection of material that is available on the web:
http://www.secondharvest.org/learn_about_hunger/working_poor.html
According to the most recent survey on hunger and homelessness conducted by the United States Conference of Mayors, 40% of adults requesting emergency food assistance were employe (...) A report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation found that in 2002 more than 25% of working American families were classified as low-income, with incomes at 200% of the federal poverty level. This translates into more than 9.2 million families.
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/16760690.htm
WASHINGTON - The percentage of poor Americans who are living in severe poverty has reached a 32-year high, millions of working Americans are falling closer to the poverty line and the gulf between the nation's "haves" and "have-nots" continues to widen.
A McClatchy Newspapers analysis of 2005 census figures, the latest available, found that nearly 16 million Americans are living in deep or severe poverty. A family of four with two children and an annual income of less than $9,903 - half the federal poverty line - was considered severely poor in 2005. So were individuals who made less than $5,080 a year.
The McClatchy analysis found that the number of severely poor Americans grew by 26 percent from 2000 to 2005. That's 56 percent faster than the overall poverty population grew in the same period.

Clinton 'did less for black people than other presidents'
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash2.htm
Is that a problem? Why would he have to do anything specifically for them? Is there some kind of requirement that a president should give special privileges to certain races?

I am aware of that circumstance myself, but we have two threads at the same time that in their wider context are touching the same issue, so I had to make a decision where to post it.

I guess if the context is wide enough we only need one thread. This one concerns William jefferson Clinton's image as the 'first black president' and how one of the black leaders thinks Mr. Clinton was not a friend to black people.

Hello:roll:
The point is that blacks are waking up to the reality that liberals are not helping them. In fact their policies are holding them back socially, economically, and retarding their cultural development as citizens of the US.
Have I put a fine enough point on it for you?

Make up your mind. First it's Clinton being a black president and now it's liberals undermining the black race.

This thread title is a pretty wild extrapolation from the source, there's a lot of context missing. Also, the label "first black president" was a reaction to his background, not a campaign "myth". (http://ontology.buffalo.edu./smith/clinton/morrison.html)
Also, he seems to have a forward-thinking attitude on race - http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2004/07/b122950.html
I don't know what the hell this thread had turned into, though.

I'm interested because it's a hell of a blanket statement to make, and I want to know what you're basing it on. How an amorphous perjorative group can do such damage to an entire race without anyone noticing confuses me. But I'll not judge the statement until i hear a bit more, one must be fair.
If you want to avoid the question and ask me about where I am, fine. I am in your computer. I've explained my location before.

If not, may I suggest you adopt my position and recuse yourself from the internal politics of a nation of which you are not a citizen.
You are nothing more than a troll if you do not adopt this policy. I know Gizzmoe has a particular fondness for trolls.
