i just read on the official forum that there will be no warping and time compression will be faster than SH3. of course we had TC in SH3 but it didnt work properly above 256x (no air attacks, convoys jumpin waypoints, crashing into other ships, no warnin of bein attacked)

i consider myself a realism fan but i hate settin out on a long patrol and havin to wait hours at 256x to get on station. everytime i reinstall SH3+ mods this issue always puts me off playing.

with SH4 bein in the much larger pacific this issue is even more important now, i really hope they get time compression workin properly. if its the same as SH3 i cant see me buyin it

Considering how consequently they eliminated the problems from SH3 and from the most recent official update, I guess the TC will be much different now, as will be the complete map-area, it seems.

To each his own way of playing.. I would find boring zooming around the map at 2048 TC.
In SH3, hopefully "going on station" to the assigned grid is just a little part of the game (in fact nobody says you even have to go there, you will just loose a little extra renown...) and there is a lot more to be done on the way in and on the way back.;)

Have you no faith? If SH4 is truly based upon the SH3 game engine then surely the game should be only a little more bugged than version 1.4b of SH3? or am i wrong. I don't know.
"I" have faith, even if you don't :D

"Considering how consequently they eliminated the problems from SH3 and from the most recent official update"

um not to my knowledge they didnt. TC above 256x is still bugged and will never be fixed. there seems to be a few people around these boards who get some kind of masochistic pleasure out of playin at very low TC levels and spendin hours watchin a dot move of over a map with a speed similar to which grass grows with not a lot hapnin which is fair enough really each to their own i say.

for me playin at TC 1000x in SH3 would have been ideal, 256x is just to slow. due to the vast size of the pacific id imagine 2056x would be a TC level id be happy with, thats if its not bugged to hell like SH3 TC was.

The TC problem was never fixed in SH3. This remains one of my fears for SH4, that high TC will cause missed aircraft encounters, game dropping out of high warp with escort already on top of you, etc. Here's hoping for the best!!

My number one dislike in SHIII was the XO saying "ship spotted" over and over.It was brutal trying to get out of Wilhelmshaven with TC and when your in the middle of a freakin convoy :damn:.

Looks like more of the same in SHIV  I really hope that somehow one can
control this,if not I am going to slap my XO silly :yep:.

There is not much way around the TC problem. Every sim game can only be based on the principle of a player bubble moving around in the sim's world. Only once the objects enter this bubble are they calculated in real time and displayed as 3D objects. Anything outside the bubble is checked at timed intervals. So the higher the TC, the bigger the distance covered by these objects and increased chance of hopping the player bubble between two checks. Having everything calculated in real time is just impossible in relation with the power of our PCs.
So you're left with several styles of gameplay between which you must choose what you like most : play at high TC for fast patrols knowing that you will miss a lot but cover more distance in a given play time, play at lower TC so you don't miss events knowing it will take longer play time to finish your patrol, and of course alternate fast and slower TC following what you're doing (crossing the Atlantic or investigating a shipping lane). I am not sure you will see more action at high TC because you will cover more ground but you will miss many events.
As I am in no hurry I usually play SH3 at TC 128 and make a real time stop every 3 hours game time for a general check, crew management, look around and hydrophone check when in shipping areas. An average 4 to 5 weeks patrol takes me a week playing time at 3 to 4 hours every evening. When back in port, I leave the sub being refitted for a couple weeks while I go back to my dear flight sims or anything else. Then I start feeling the need for the next fix...;)
Sub sims on the dynamic campaign side have always been slow paced games where you must be ready to invest time. Otherwise you always have the single mission option where you have action right away.

Weeell,,I agree with prev. "talker":D

I speed TC up covering a big distance where "normally" little activity is normal:ping: and when I approach, for example the AM area, I slooooooooow down the TC, so I guess one has to adjust the playing style.
Playing real-time I got one for ya'll: I was doing a real-time patrol and yes I fell asleep in front of my puter and when I woke up I saw the text in front of the end-out page: Sub gone, crewmen dead and I in a state of: "Huh??" what happened"":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

TC has it advantages,,,,,,,
