I'm sure that there are many members who have seen or heard of the 1981 submarine movie 'Das Boot'.
The March 12 issue of 'Time' reports that Lothar-Guenther Buchheim, the author of the book, has died in Berlin aged 89.
As a reporter for the German Navy during WWII he wrote pieces of wartime propaganda. Then in 1973, he turned his experiences into the anti-war book, Das Boot which became a global best seller.
I haven't read the book but I have this authentically produced movie amongst my collection.
RIP
