Wow! Thanks.

Questions:

- Where did you get it.
- Is it scrollable to the right - into the Indian Ocean - beyond Oz?

It's from the latest written dev diary, and according to that diary, it is a complete world:

"In SH3 the world was kind of flat and the ships were very stubborn in not crossing the line when reaching the end of the map by turning 180 degrees. The Pacific Ocean was split in two beyond recognition. The first thing to do was to put everything on a cylinder so that the map scrolls, fish from both sides of the Pacific are reunited, the first AI trip around the world is actually possible..."

more importently !!!!!

"First we’ve introduced the location editing system to put on map the 3D locations much easily and also to put 2D images and notes and started tuning things up"

There is an option for imperial or metric system . The player chooses which one to use.

Good quote , but how about this one "I hope that the new capabilities will allow you to put in the game everything that we forgot or didn’t have a priority for it." I think you forgot wolfpacks again .

It looks kinda cartoonish. Can't say as I'm real impressed. Is this historical or something?

If you ask me, it's a huge improvement. It looks, far, far, far better than the SH III one. It's also supposedly using blocks of 400 m instead of 1 km, meaning it's far more smooth.

Okay, in that case I guess it's better. I just thought we might see something a little different from the old SH3 map, but the way you explain it sounds like it is an improvement after all. Thank you! :D

The map scrolls . Its the whole world , not just that part that you can see . You have to move the curser to move the map .

Nice, it hs coordinates.

Latitude and longitude were good enough for Magellan, they're good enough for the USN. <g>

If those krauts had 86ed the alphabet map they might not have gotten lost so often. (Ducking, running . . .)

Hmm I wonder how many of us will take a detour into the Hudson bay to scare the S#$t out of some Canadians, Oh hell just hit Vancouver.

Cartoonish?

Sorry, but this is much closer to real nav-maps than the SH3-maps.

Looks good to me, they've got Japan in the right place at any rate!

I just hope I don't get asked to patrol 'inland' like I did with SH3 from time to time.

This is exactly what was needed!! FINALLY!! A map that looks like a CHART and not like a GPS shot of the earth. Cartoonish??? Man, just search around the web for nautical charts and you will see that they look like this. This adds a HUGE amount to inmersion in my opinion, now you see your sub progress in a real nautical chart, just as if you were looking at it in the desk of your sub. GREAT JOB!

As for the world being a cylinder....I wish that had already been done in SH2 because that gave us serious headaches back when doing the Pacific Aces mod...we had to set Midway on a incorrect location because the earth ended in the time-change line :damn:

I have started to make a Google Earth map of Subbases, Importent Places, Lost US sub locations, Jap bases and lighthouse posisions.

If some of you want it i can upload it to File Shack or something.

The devs have to leave the modders something to do , or this might not be the final version .
