Just received this e-mail detailing the forthcoming features of the new Ship Simulator 2007, the devs seem to have addressed all of the main issues with the 2006 version and are adding a ton of new features...

Things are going very well here at the Ship Simulator development team. The game has been sold well over 100,000 times in less than one year after the initial launch, not bad for a first release of a new title!
Add-on Pack with six new ships

The add-on pack with 6 new ships is selling really well through our on-line Webshop. Our publishers are bringing out the add-on pack in the same retail stores as the game itself. They should arrive there any time soon. Reactions from early buyers are very positive, see the shipsim.com forum.
Ship Simulator Professional into production

In the last newsletter we announced a new product, at the time called Ship Simulator NMEA Chart Interface. It made it possible to connect professional navigation charting software and equipment to the game. So you could follow your player ship on the electronic navigation chart.
After we received some very positive feedback, we developed support for AIS (Automatic Identification System, a system used by ships and vessel traffic systems principally for identification of vessels at sea) into the program. So you can now also follow the position and direction of autonomous ships in the game as AIS icons on the chart.
We also worked with some navigation software providers to get free trial versions of their program included on our CD. If you connect two monitors to your PC, you can run a Ship Simulator mission on one monitor, and the navigation software on the other.
We also decided to include the original game and the add-on pack, and renamed the product to Ship Simulator Professional. So it no longer is an add-on product, but a product that can be usedIt went into production today. You can order it through our site. We are setting up a Global distribution network right now.

I'll keep an eye out on this. Well, the demo anyway.
