Yep, but you do have to have the official 1.4b patch installed. Then you can go into the 'Submarine' files and change the 'StormConditions' settings.

Someone who can be more specific will be along presently; never fear.

Go into C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine and find your boat.
VIIB is NSS_Uboat7b for example.
Find this line; StormConditions=
Change it to;
StormConditions=11,0.8;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]
or
StormConditions=14,0.9;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

There is a bad weather mod, but its value is 99 I think. The above values at least offer some flexability.

You'ld say "Yes sir, right away say" or you'll be on the train to the eastern front as soon as we reach port.

Manning the deck gun in high seas - and drowning your gun crew - won't help anyway. Even a wave crashing over the deck temporarily interrupts the loading, aiming, and firing of the gun.

Some targets get away. Sometimes weather works against you. Sometimes torpedoes miss, sometimes they're duds. Sometimes ships suck up eels but don't sink. Sometimes after two hours of setting up an intercept the target changes course. Sometimes destroyers and aircraft get lucky.

Nature of the job. Just get used to it - the unpredictability of it all is a major plus for replay value.

Rykaird; I think your missing the point. aaronsk26 wanted to know how to correct the game to use the deck gun in "bad weather", not nessesarily high seas. The adjustments I gave allow this but still allow the game to not let your deck gus be used in high seas.
Besides, you can't drown your crew unless they are inside the boat.

Inconceivable!

Thanks for the correction. ;)

Yes and no. The game itself cheats all over the place, including the way the weather affects the gunners. In an actual 15 m/s wind it should just be getting choppy enough to preclude using the deck gun, but that's as high as it goes in the game. I use the 'Big Waves' mod, set at 2x, and just imagine that it's doubled. It certainly looks that way. On the other hand the flak guns, which are tied to the deck gun where the weather is concerned, should be enabled at higher sea states, so that's another problem.

Another place the game cheats (for you newer guys) is the engine upgrades. The max speeds attainable with "unsupercharged" diesels is wrong. Well, actually it's right, but for the supercharged variants. The Type II and VIIa didn't have superchargers. The VIIb and every Type that followed did, and they weren't optional. You couldn't "upgrade" them.

And if we're going on about cheating, don't even get me started on the external cameras.

Yup some good points steve the one that deffinatly annooys me is the gunss i mean the upp er flak gun is what a good 7 to 10 feet above the deck guns so even in crappy weather you should still be able to use it imho:up:
