Because Sony has owned the rights for ages, and insist on making ****ty games.

I hope someone like Simbin get their hands on that license one day.

I would love to race in the classic '50s, '60s or even back in the wonderful 1930s! Yeah! 600hp supercharged 6-litre engines! 210mph! And best of all, almost NO BRAKES!

The old workhorse Grand Prix Legends give you the 60`s, its still a brilliant game.

But I`m more into the newer GT Legends (GT40, Cobra, E-type, etc) and the brand new mega-sim GTR2.

You`ll have tons of fun in GT Legends with the G25, firewall, and in the US GT Legends is bundled with GTR2 at an insane low price (19.99 I believe), since the US market is not that interested in Euro-racing. I envy you that!

Played it and didn't like it. I thought they put too much emphasis on what they called "realism" (just staying on the road) and missed a lot of the fun of racing. Also it bothered me that there could never be more than six cars on the track.

Yeah, as stabiz said Sony owns now the license, after some years of EA Sports. Thus the old EA F1 2000 to 2002 and F1 Challenge saga, which was very decent.

If you really, really want an F1 game, then you still might get on ebay F1 Challenge or Grand Prix 4. For F1 Challenge there are carsets from the modders up to 2005, though people have started moving now to rFactor. For GP4 there are carsets up to the incoming 2007, with fantastic detail.

My hint however is to stay far from the F1 unless you are a real fan of that. Racing F1 sims is many times as boring as the real F1. Better get GTR2 or GT Legends, but note that this last one has the dreaded Starforce on it

No more than 6 cars on the track? How come that? I have played many times with a full grid of 19 cars with no problems :-? If you want to give a try to a incredible update, get the GPL2004 demo at bhmotorsports as bradclark already linked.
