Hi, I have been using the fast 90 advaced targetting method for a while now when it suits. Everything is ok on a target that is travelling south and i am facing its starboard side. Fine i hit it ok with a torpedo as follows

1.South travelling target
2.set speed of target.
3.get angle to set for calibrate scope
4.Set scope target to my port side = 360-angle measured
5.set scope to this angle
6.set AOB to 90 degrees Starboard (green sector) as i am facing the starboard side of target
7. get range and set and shoot
8. direct hit on target.

When i encounter a target travelling south but to my starboard side the following happens?? it goes wrong???

1 Target travelling South
2 set target speed
3 get angle calibrate scope
4. set scope to target to my starboard side = measured angle
5 set scope to this angle
6 set AOB to 90 degrees port (red sector) as i am facing the port side of the target
7 get range and shoot
9 it misses goes astern of THE target everytime :damn:

when i set the AOB to 90 degrees starboard instead it hits but that is not the correct setting as per wazoos guide.????? it WORKS OK ON THE TRAINING SCENARIOS BUT NOT ON A SAVED GAME IN THE CAREER HAS SOMETHING GONE WRONG??

IS THEIR A BUG AS I CAN HIT TARGETS FINE TOP THE STARBOARD SIDE BUT NOT TARGETS TO THEIR PORT SIDE??? USING THE ADVANCED TARGET 90 DEGREE METHOD.

BUT I CAN HIT TARGETS USING THE BASIC 90 DEGREE TARGET SYSTEM NO PROBS FROM BOTH PORT AND STARBOARD SIDE SHOTS :yep:

I ALSO NOTICED THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE IN THE TRAINING SCENARIO WHEN I PRACTICE THE FAST 90 TARGETETTING FROM BOTH PROT AND STARBOARD TARGET SHOTS. IT ONLY SEEMS TO DO IN THE CAREER HAVING SAVED A GAME.

PLEASE ANY HELP ON THIS ISSUE??

THANK YOU

No matter which way the target is traveling across your bow (to port or to starboard), you need to plot the target's course, determine its speed and calculate the Angle on the Bow. It is important to input the AOB correctly into the TDC as to Port (red) or Starboard (green). This could be your error.

In SH3, target speed and Angle on the Bow are the only things that matter in manual targeting. It's easier to determine Angle on the Bow at the course intercept Point because it stays constant as you and the target travel along your respective courses. Set the scope/UZO to zero bearing and input the angle on the bow at intercept point. Then you're free to rotate the scope or UZO to where the crosshairs line up with target and the TDC will always compute the correct Angle on the Bow.

Target speed is the most important aspect of manual targeting, your post mentioned nothing about you calculating target speed. Most people use the 3-minute, 15-second method to determine speed. I like a method that's exactly the same but different.

Continually mark target's position and the time as the target travels along its course. The longer the time, the more accurate your estimate. Measure the distance traveled in kilometers, determine the time it took to travel those kilometers and use this equation: Distance in Kmeters x 32.5 divided by the minutes = estimated speed in knots.

Example: target travels 5 kmeters in 25 minutes. Thus, 5 x 32.5 = 162.5, then divide 162.5 by 25 = 6.5 knots. Input speed into TDC in 1/2 knot intervals to be most accurate.

Also note, your intercept course should be plotted to get you to a good firing position. A good firing position should be ahead of the target and just off the target course by 500 to 1000 meters at time of firing. You do not have to be lined up to the target's course at 90-degrees. I'm usually between 45 and 80-degrees to target's course. The important thing is to time the firing of the torpedo to get as close to a 90-degree impact as possible. You can do this because the torpedo has the ability to turn due to the settings you've put into the TDC.

I hope this is helpful.
