Need help with recognition manual

I have tried everthing and am at a lost.

I want to be able to indentify ship myself and not have the WO do it.

I have ticked " NO Weapon Office" option and click accept

I dont put an officer in the WO slot and when I look at a ship and lock it ships name appears.

SH3, 1.4b patch, NYGM 2.4

Can any one help me please

I have no WO assistance, although I keep in his slot to help me with torpedo loading.

Are you getting the exact name, or an approximate one? When I lock I get "Cargo" but I don't get "Tramp Steamer" as an example.

I don't think it has to do with the WO assist because he will only give you an identification if you ask for it... Are you playing with or without map contacts update ?
Does it give you the exact type of ship or just "cargo" ?

If you don't want the "instant" solutions when you lock on any target then you need to check the "Manual targeting system" box. Then you either have to ask the WO for a recognition/solution or work them out yourself.
I believe the ship type that appears, Merchant, Warship, etc is to represent a report from the hydrophone operator who can tell you what type of ship it is from the screw sound.
