View Full Version : My Howl about the GWX weather

Endless rough seas, low visibility (won't mention rain) going on forever, seem ok and normal for North Sea and North Atlantic north of latitude 40N.

Having the same conditions of endless crappy weather around Canaries, Gibraltar, Azores is not realistic. I did a bit of a cruise toward Freetown and heavy rain was present throughout the trip (this jaunt was brought to a halt by a power failure).

Certainly one gets bad weather in the lower latitudes. But, these are short lived storms, often localized thunderstorms and violent squall lines that don't last very long. So far, my global experience with GWX is limited, so I could be wrong and simply had bad luck with the weather.

Wouldn't it be possible to have better weather random factors for different areas of the GWX universe? :-?

I hope some of our great moders will respond. :D

Am not sure it is GWX related, the weather system in SH3 has always been a concern.
Can't say more on this as I have not been in many places in GWX yet (in the Med so far had mostly nice weather), but my NYGM/SH3 Weather install is not too bad, I get frequent weather changes...

I've had three patrols in a row with 15m storms (or whatever their rated, the 15 one that is). At least the rain wasnt there and fog was low. I traveled from northern part of britain all the way to gibraltar and the weather never changed. I figured it was due to the part of year being december 39 - february 40. Hoping my March patrol has better weather but playing the old GW (just recently d/led the new one) I had this same issue, once march april came around the weather was nice again till novemberish.

What i would suggest is go check the weather reports from that year you can get hem on line from the met office and a few other sites and you can see how realistic or not it is:up:

I've been watching the series called Deadliest Catch on discovery channel lately, the worst weather in SH3 doesnt even compare to the real thing! Holly cow, some crazy waves at times there in the north! Sure those fishing vessels arent the largest things in the sea but they nearly disappear as they get in the low parts of the waves when the guys are recording! Wow

On new patrol now March 41-- 2 days of sunny calm. Heading for Gibraltar approaches. Then overcast, heavy seas.

After two days clear! Heavy seas. :sunny:

But it's raining bombs. Oh well, you don't go into subs to get a tan.

Just bonked a large freighter :smug:
