:-? Ann Coulter may be the world's biggest b***h. :-?
I am optimistic enough to believe that my fellow citizens of a conservative bent by and large reject this sort of childish hate speech. We can disagree on every single issue, but uttering a slur about a married man's sexual orientation is appalling, and has no place whatsoever in any public discourse. Disgusting.:nope: :nope: :nope:

Why is there a different standard for Ann Coulter? There were no repercussions when liberals produced a film about the assassination of George W. Bush and Cindy Sheehan wrote that she dreamed of traveling back in time to strangle the future president in his cradle. Liberals cheered when Bill Maher expressed disappointment (http://newsbusters.org/stories/maher_sorry_cheney_assasination_attempt_failed.htm l) that Vice President Dick Cheney wasn’t killed in the recent terrorist attack against him in Afghanistan. The shrieking from the Left about Coulter’s comment is as phony as Hillary Clinton’s latest position on (insert just about anything here).
True to form, John Edwards used the incident to raise funds (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,256418,00.html) for his presidential bid. If anything, faggots should be offended by being mentioned in the same sentence as the sleazy trial lawyer.

waste gate,
that was kind of my point above in the set of links that I placed. The thing on Maher is obvious. Liberal pundits can wink and nudge at the killing of a political figure, but God forbid that Edwards is compared to a homosexual.
It would have been ok if Coulter had called him a 'slack jawed redneck baptist redneck NASCAR fan.'
The funny thing is that given how inclusive and tolerant the Democratic wing of the Democratic party is, Edwards should have embraced being compared to such a poorly treated and stigmatized class of people.... just like he can empathize with po' folks like me. http://carolinajournal.com/exclusives/display_exclusive.html?id=3848

Are there threads in this forum about these other incidents? If so I must have missed them. It possibly slipped by you, but the topic in this thread here is specifically Coulter's colourful vocabulary. Leave it in middle school, Ann.

Perhaps it slipped by you that I started this thread. And since we're calling a spade a spade the advocacy of murder is much higher on the list of evil than what Ann said.

Ann and other demagogues like her (Moore in particular) should just go find a rock and crawl under it. We don't need vitriolic attention-seekers like them in a decent country, fooling and feeding off the masses, weakening their respective side's argument.

Lets not forget Bill Maher, Cindy Sheehan, Rosie O'Donnell, Barbara Streisand, Alec Baldwin (who still hasn't left the country, like he said he would), et al.

This false surprise is wearing thin, fellas.
On each side, politicians are operating, turning an instance of pure gobsh*tery into a political football. Don't kid yourselves into thinkng it would be different the other way round. Don't get fooled into thinking that this is important
When something like this happens, just be the bigger one and let it slide. Go after what matters, instead of what you're told matters.

Um, what Coulter said about Edwards isn't nearly as bad as the things that Edwards former blogger would say about Catholics and Conservatives.....
And since we're calling a spade a spade the advocacy of murder is much higher on the list of evil than what Ann said.
It's up there, for certain. But you asked "Why is there a different standard for Ann Coulter?" There isn't. The OP is about her comment. And the posters have weighed in on it.
Squigian's post summarizes my own personal convictions better than I can.

Maybe someone didn't watch Scarboro Country tonight. Evidently Bill Maher never said anything about Dick Cheney. Someone else spouted that evil speech. Bill just supports peoples rights to Free Speech. LOL I disagree with Bill on that subject. Ann Coultergeist went over the line IMHO :/\\chop :/\\chop . But Bill Maher thinks she has the right to say what she wants. Just like he thinks that people have the right to think what they want to think about Dick Cheney and the attempt to scare him in Afganistan. But Bill never said that he wanted Dick Cheney killed. Who ever say that he said that is LYING THOUGH THIER TEETH!
I will say that Dick Chency and those that support him have a tendency to lie a lot. Take Scooter for example. :)
And John Edwards is a excellent trial lawyer. Most sleeze bags exist in the diplomatic corp.

As it turns out, Coulter may have learned from some predecessors (http://www.rightwingnews.com/mt331/2007/03/if_ann_coulter_was_wrong_and_s.php). Ain't hypocrisy sweet?!

Oh, for goodness sake! The humanity!
I didn't hear a ton of cheers, I heard alot of nervous laughter. That was the reaction. Listen to the applause for most the other points.
I'd suggest you get just as much vitriol at a DailyKos convention. Of course, that is different b/c it sarcasm and not a slur. Have a look at this, from a left political commentator that used to work for John Edwards, the man in question here, before the blogger in question was called on her continued vile comments about Christians and Jews, comments that make what Ms. Coulter said pale by comparison. This blogger was not fired by John Edwards for said comments, but resigned instead. If Edwards and the left were so worried about civility, they would do well to take a look at some of the folks in their own tent...

But, from time to time, I agree with her. In this case, she was making a reference to Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, and at least 50 other "celbrities" including Zha-Zha Gabor and Teddy Kennedy Jr. In that context, she's right -- she'll need "rehab" for this one. :rotfl:

Hardly a double standard, waste gate.
1 - a word is used to insult a public figure, a word thats sole intent is to insult and alienate people on the basis of their sexual orientation.
2 - Candidate takes another's faux pas and turns it on it's head. He uses a word that was a compliment to begin with, and plays with it.

Er, yes. He's getting a pass because there's nothing harmful in what he said. Unlike Coulter. This is why it's not a double standard. The two situations are not comparable. Endy story. Had he called Edwards a redneck or something like that, then we'd have something to get concerned about.
What doyou think about what he said about Edwards, compared to Coulter?
