Hello all,

As much as I have enjoyed GWX for the limited time I've used it, I'm sorry to say it's just too much for my dated system to handle. I unfortunately don't have the budget to do major upgrades, and I'm not sure this old, burned-out hunk of junk would handle new hardware anyway.

Stock SHIII runs fairly smoothly, with only the occasional major foul-up. I'm looking at the single mods available and believe I can fit a few in while keeping the game reasonably stable...does anyone have any suggestions for mods that will at least approximate the GWX environment?

Thanks,
-akula-

You can also do this hit alt-ctrl-delete then give SH3 real time priority make sure you aint running anything in the background full stop that may help your cause.

I've played sub simulation games for over 20 years. Anyone remember Silent Service?

I thought the stock SH3 was pretty good in comparison to all the others Iv'e played except for one aspect. There were just too many radio contacts, therefore it was too easy to find targets.

So what I did and would recommend to the stock game is to find the Contacts file in the cfg folder and lower the stock radio contact of 300-kmeters down to 30-kmeters. This in effect would lower the contacts to approximate the sighting of ships on the horizon (approximately 16 nautical miles). This makes it a lot harder to find targets and it would be more realistic.

NYGM isn't too rough on system spec's - but its a totally different ballgame, and a bit more difficult in some respects in gameplay.

After that would be "Unified Campaign Vanilla" which is basically just a ravamped campaign world sans many tweaks.

Depending on yur specs like bbw says, dumping running processes via task manager (alt-ctrl-del) can really help. I was running the game reasonably well before, but it's made quite an improvement ... the amount of garbage you can be running without knowing can be astounding. A full reload of your comp from scratch might also be good, depending on the state of your comp.

Of course, make sure you defrag your hard drive, shut down anything running in the background (virus scanners like Norton are resource hogs). While I know you said that upgrades are cost prohibitive, an extra gigabyte of memory (assuming your motherboard can handle it) should only run you about $100 and does wonders for performance. I went from 1 gb of memory to 2 gb, and its like night and day!

Oh and a Gig of Decent ram in the UK is going for £50, also make sure there are no malware/spyware etc running on ur pc run cause they can seriously degrade performance. Get a prog called spyware doctor its pretty comprehensive i hope all the tips we have gave you help you to run GWX.
