Regardless of saving a buck here or a buck there I decided to pre order SHIV from Gogamer.
The reson being is that I had gotten really the best, in terms of service when I ordered IL-2 1946.
I ordered online on a Wedesday evening late at night, and received delivery the following Monday in the AM.
From the info they sent me, they told me that it will be in stock on or around the 7th of March, but did let me know there were no guarentees that they would be able to mail it out that day.They said as soon as it was in their hot little mitts they would send it.No complaints about that.:)

Usually it means the developers are finished the code and have sent a master copy to the publishers. The CD used to deliver it at one time was gold-colored, hence the term "gone gold".

The publisher now makes copies and boxes it up with manuals, etc. and distributes it to the retail stores.

The German Mag "Powerplay" confirms March 22nd for release in Germany, so I´m pretty sure it will be available somewhat earlier in the USA.

Powerplay had a two page preview in their current issue and they seem really impressed, but they say they were not able to play the campaign since it hadn´t been finished then.

I'm sure there will be LOTS of noise from 1st reactions on this web site. Wading through all the pro and con posters to get a feel for the real truth (which are bugs, which are user errors, which are individual hardware/driver failures) is always the challenge. Regardless of how the 1st release turns out, a playable version eventually rises to the surface. Ouwooooooooga.

It's impossible for even a very large pool of testers over long periods of time to see everything that would happen when throusands of users on every combination of hardware possible starts hammering at the software. After all, we're playing to WIN not playing to test. Purchasers don't follow the rules that constrain testers. Also, it's rare (if ever) when the testers get to see the gold version of the software.
