I've been playing a campaign in 1940. I sank 4 ships so far, all allied tonnage, labelled british. Then, I came across what was labelled as a neutral convoy on the radio report.

It turned out to have british flags (every ship). Sank 2 med freighters, and all of a sudden, when I saved and exited, all my allied ships sunk turned to neutral ships sunk. Real bummer.

Maybe they were a Neutral nation at that time like Canada maybe which has a very similar flag to the British one on its merchants ships in the game, GWX lets you check the flags in the drag down screen box in the upper left corner of the periscope screen to see all the flags and when they are at war with Germany.

Hope this helps

Did they appear red on the map or green?

GWX makes all contacts appear black, you have to ID them via flags - can be dangerous but it's by far my favorite addition

I guess mel was thinking of the sunk-ship icons. They do appear red (enemy),green (neutral) or blue (allied).
Correct me if I was wrong mel.

That's exactly what I was asking:yep: Also have you finished your patrol or you're still half way through it? I mean how do you know the ships sunk are neutral? If you're still on patrol and you haven't return to base yet I have a sneeky idea of what the problem is, but I will not say anything yet as I need to know the answer to the questions I asked. Let me know and we'll find a solution to your problem;)

Now Jim you just have to wait like all the other boys for the answers to the questions first;)

On a serious note I am not saying anything as I don't have enough information. My opinion is that he misread the menu but I'm not totally sure yet. Patience my frient is a virtue;) :p :rotfl:

Wow, lots of responses. Welp, let's see. Before I go on, I was 5 beers into it when the ships showed up as neutral.

But anyway, here's what happened. The radio message showed them as neutral, but they all had british flags confirmed by outside view (although, I'm not sure what the WWII Canadian flag looks like so that is a possibility). I had sunk 3 ships to date, all enemy and all red sunk marks on the map.

I torp'd 2 merchants in this 'neutral/british' fleet and one sank fairly quickly and left a red sunk mark (not green) on the map. I surfaced because my sonar guy said there were no warships. Welp, I took a shelling and quickly submerged to find 3 destroyers (definitely british) circling me. I spent the next 2 hrs trying to avoid them. While I was avoiding them, the second merchant finally sunk, however this one didn't leave a sunk mark on the map. No mark at all.

Finally, I lost the destroyers, primarily because it's only 1940 (definitely not from my abilities). I then clicked save and exit. When you do this, it shows how much tonnage and ships sunk before going to menu. It showed 5 ships sunk (so I did get credit for that second, but still no mark on the map) and all were definitely in the neutral category. So it changed my earlier ones to neutral.

I was going to go down and recheck today and see what it says, just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. But that's my recollection of the situation. So I am still on patrol, not in port.

Hope that answers the questions. I'll let you know what I find, unless of course I somehow was seeing things and then I'll just slip away to the depths, never to be heard from again.

welp, just checked and all sunk ships red (except the last one) and when I hit save and exit, it definitely shows 5 neutral ships sunk.

I'm tempted to load an earlier save before I sunk those ships as I know they showed up as enemy when i hit save and exit.

Ahh, I'll probably just go back to base. Do you lose renown or just not gain any for neutral?

You will lose renown for neutrals and get an @ss kicking from uncle Karl
:rotfl:

If they show as red icons they are not neutral
Wait till you dock and see

If the sink icons are red on the nav map then the ships you sunk are enemy ones and you will get renown. In the final screen after you press the return to base option you will see the number of enemy, neutral and allied ships sunk. Is this where the problem is? Do me a favour and count the number of lines on both colums and see if the ships noted are enemy or neutral. It's a common optical illusion that you think the ships stated are neutral where in reality they're enemy ones.

I'm not returning to base. I am only doing the save and exit button while in patrol. That's where I'm seeing it as neutral. I have not returned to base yet. Hopin tho that they'll show up as enemy when I dock.

I'll do the count the lines thing as you suggested just to make sure and get back to you. I'm 99.9 % sure it's on the neutral line. Not sure I'll get to check tonight though. Wifey stuff ya know. ;)

Sink the bloody lot of them that includes your own side who are trying to bolt for it in 1945. :arrgh!:
