Let me start by saying that I did read the Vista sticky post and have done a lot of research into my problem before posting here. Also if this is an inappropriate forum to post this kind of question I apologize in advance.
With that said, I'm having a problem Silent Hunter (as well as Oblivion) crashing to the desktop with no error message. At one point I thought that it was Oblivion causing it, but now that I've done some trial and error I see that the two are unrelated and both crash regardless. Also for the record I just upgraded to Vista last night, and I am having the same crasing problem with Vista that I did with XP Pro, so apparently its not a problem related to the OS.
So tonight when I get home from work I'm going to try the following:
1. I live in Arizona and dust is a major problem here, so I'm going to start by cleaning out the computer case with an air can, especially around the RAM slots which from what I read can be the cause of CTD problems.
2. After that I'm going to do a fresh install of SH3 and test whether it crashes when playing vanilla, and then upgrade to GWX and see if that makes a difference.
Since I have the same problem on two different OS systems, and I did a complete harddrive format inbetween, I doubt this is a software issue, seems hardware related. Just wondering what you all think, and if you have any other ideas for me to try tonight. Thanks so much friends
Here are my computer specs:
P4 3.0 Ghz with hyper threading enabled
1500 RAM
GeForce 6800GT OC
Sound Blaster Audigy 2Z Platinum Pro
I have the latest drivers for all of the above, and I do not overclock any of my hardware.
