Waiting sadly for my Subsim Almanac (I know, Neal, I have to be patient), I casually discovered something nicely close to his topic.
It's a new italian book, named "Rapidi e invisibili" (Quick and stealth), published by "Il Saggiatore" late january 2007: sort of almanac itself, with eight long historical rewiews, since 1866 to 1945, by different authors, about submarines and related topics.
Strange title, I'd say; I nearly missed this book, thinking to modern militar aircrafts, totally off my main interests. Purchased today, during my lunch free time.
Now I can just tell you something about the general content, as shown in the index:
1) history of torpedo's invention
2) the stolen submarine
3) sinking of austrian sub U-12
4) italian subs and and the Rijeka's affair
5) italian subs and spanish civil war
6) the failed attack at New York's harbour
7) history of the royal boat Scirč
8) forgotten in far east waters (italian subs in Japan)
www.saggiatore.it (http://www.saggiatore.it) or mail rapidieinvisibili@libero.it for further informations; now I'm moving to 250 pages still unread.
