I have two real passions and both are related to submarine history....books and collecting signatures of famous and not-so-famous submariners. And with the upcoming release of SH4 I thought I would share this with the community.

About six years ago I bought this little beauty from eBay, a slightly misused first edition of Robert Hadfield Barnes' United States Submarines, copyright 1944. It originally had been owned by a US Navy veteran (name and serial number on inside cover.) Several pages had been scribbled on with a crayon by some over-enthusiastic grandchild I'm sure. It is a nice little book covering the development of US submarines up to the publication date. The appendices lists medal winners of the submarine force..officers and enlisted men. It also listed the construction records of US Submarines. Imagine my great surprise when I leafed through this section of the book and discovered these wonderful gems!!:sunny:

Signatures of some of the greats:

(p.193): Thomas W. Hogan, skipper of Bonefish (7 ships sunk for 34329 tons); James C. Dempsey, skipper of S-37, Spearfish, Cod (7 ships for 30794 tons); Arthur H. Taylor, skipper of Haddock (5 ships for 18747 tons); Reuben T. Whitaker, skipper of S-44, Flasher (14.5 ships for 60846 tons)

(p.194) Ian C. Eddy, skipper of Pargo (4 ships for 13804 tons); Eugene T. Sands, skipper of Sawfish (3 ships for 6260 tons); and Slade D. Cutter, skipper of Seahorse (19 ships for 72000) tons.
