I was heading towards my patrol area off the Western Africa coast, and I stumbled upon 3 ships, all with French flags. Now, after I sunk them, it showed their icons as green (allied I believe?). I thought the French were enemies, id be glad if someone could help my confusion here.

Green icons means - neutral.
When did tha happen (the year)?

I was confused as well, especially given that there is a small typo in the flaggen sheet for GWX 1.02.

bigboywooly was kind enough to set me straight:

"France is allied 3 Sept 39 till 25th June 40 and 26th Aug 44 till war end"

Between those two dates she's neutral.

The new updated manual for 1.02 has the same layout of the updated flags which can be seen at the periscope or uzo screen. Simply center this page on your computer screen and print a copy on paper for easy reference.

Or go to

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\Gui\Layout

Open the Flaggen.tga and print that

On the top left hand side of the periscope screen you will find a drop down tab. Just drag it and you will see all the flags you need;)

I do believe there is a typo/mistake on the Flaggen.tga: It lists France as Allied, with date ranges of 03/09/39 - 25/06/40 and 26/08/40 - 31/12/45. I think the 26/08/40 should be 26/08/44.

Yes. There's a few flaggen typos which are currently getting fixed for the next release. :yep:

I guess this comes from the GWX manual? I'm looking for a doc that shows the same kind of info for the stock game at patch 1.4b. Anyone?

It's kindof an exploit, but if I'm unsure about a ship with an unusual flag (like Croatia or something), I apply time compression. It won't let you go over 32x in the presence of an enemy ship, though if it's neutral the TC is unlimited.

It's not from the stock game, no.

If i'm not mistakened (can't check it 'cause i'm at work now) it comes from:
C:...\data\Menu\Gui\Layout

Flaggen.tga

Mind that it's from the Stock SH3 patched to 1.4b + GWX 1.0.

IIRC you can press F1 for the help screen in stock and it should list " Enemies of Germany "

Hey guys,

Im a little confusing regarding this topic as well.

Looking at the "enemies of Germany" I see that the french were technically neutral during German occupation... What about the "free french?" Is there a flag that seperates them?

A nice juicey French group of french ships just appeared off lisbon, and man I don't even need to change my course to sink em! hehehe

Yes, the Free French flags have a red cross of Lorraine in the middle of them.
If you use GWX, it's shown right under the French flag on the Flag chart in the corner of your periscope screen.
