For the past day I was consulting myself if I should play SH3 vanilla or use GWX now im a big fan of striking a port and getting the heck outta there before warships arive so GWX in the beggining seemed quite difficult for me it got uninstalled. Tried it again uninstalled it, so for the last time I installed it again and played a bit of campaign hunting out in the open. I had a blast my first ever GWX patrol scored me 30K tonnage 3 Merchant ships 1 lone wolf and 2 in a convoy I was like heck yeah this is one awesome mod. And then I went on my second patrol. I ran into a convoy which I battled for 3 hours (real time) Expended all my torpedo's and all but 7 cannon rounds. Ending results 2 patrol boats 2 corvettes 2 DD's 7 different merc ships. 40 tonnes though... bummer. Im using a VIIB and just got relocated to Nazaire (spelling?). I will post some pic's of my adventures when I get around to them because GWX is an awesome mod.

My Silent Hunter experience is SH1 in the early-mid 90's heavily played with very little SH3 experience about 10 hours to be exact this year and last year. I think ive finally got hooked good by the game. I guess its the rush trying to escape from them darned warships. Also for the record in that patrol I used 74% difficulty Auto Aim was on as well as that other assisted torp aim and outside views... Meh I guess I like my eye candy only use outside views when theres a spectacular explosion though . And the 2 patrol boats were the armed trawlers (if thats counted as a patrol) the corvettes were 2 flower class ships and the 2 DD's were 1 hunt 1 class and 1 V&D (or V&W) Admiral (I think thats it).

Anyhoo its 3 in the morning almost, and ive looked through these forums without an account for quite a while so have a good feeling for the scene.

This also being my first post i'd just like to say hi everybody and lets get out there and sink something.

As a side note anyone else find BB's a little too rare? They sure are for my liking :rotfl:

Welcome, as said earlier I wouldn't worry about BB's there's plenty of them,in ports in convoys, and there also in TF's but you might be hard pressed trying to catch one.

Wow I thought attacking a dock would be much harder then it actually was. The dock was guarded by 2 Armed trawlers and 1 Flower Corvette took out 1 trawler 1 Flower Corvette the other trawler was busy dis mantling himself from the ground he managed to get stuck into which left the whole entire port of liverpool up for grabs. I managed to use all but 7 out of my 21 torpedoes and I had heavy fog at about ~350m visibility. Managed to take out 1 steamer 1 medium tanker and 1 Large Merchant all together 20 tonnes. Added to my other Large Cargo and various DD's and other low tonnage warships I managed to pull off about 35K tonnage. Ill start blogging away I managed to get through 3 patrols in the last 6 hours.

Yeah was just putting some of those evasive manuvers to use was just outside the Brit naval patrol zone at gib (yeah dangerous I know) then I hit a convoy with a total crap load of ships I quickly messaged for help and got another VIIC submarine in to assist :shifty: musta been at least 20-30 merchants with 5-7 warships one of them instantly pinged me with visibility again at 300m I couldn't see jack all until I had a black swan DD on my tail. I fired off 4 torpedo's in the general direction of the convoy and 2 torpedo's directly behind me did a dive to 200m and used a port side knuckle when the charges hit the water. I sunk 1 medium merchant with the blind torps all fired behind were a miss and I got out of the battle with no damage. Was at 200m for 2 or so hours till I decided to surface just to make sure I was in the clear. Also does anyone know if theres a solution to all that damned bad weather normally I got clear for the first day or two and after that its bad weather for the next 2 weeks or so.

Possibly a nooby question but can convoy DD's etc pick up your radio messages I know aircraft could through the form of triangulation and them subs n ships have those nice little circles on them for picking up enemy signals but it seemed kinda obvious after I called for backup dived was on silent running engines off then I hear the enemy is pinging us sir. Like they knew I was there. Anyway just saved game its 12:40 AM here attacking what seems to be a normal sized convoy 4 escorts 2 Black swans 1 Flower Corvette and one V&D admiralty. Sunk 1 medium merchant and 1 Large Cargo dived down to 200M reloaded 4 front torpedoes and im ready to get into attack again convoy speed is slow and I know their general heading. Thing is this damn flower corvette cant seem to realise all his DC's are missing me but he is keeping me moving at a slow 3 knots which is disallowing me to be able to surface move infront of the convoy and reposition. Anyone have any tips or ideas or will he just get bored after a while. My torps are 4 loaded 2 internal 5 external (5 or so I think IXB no external torps used) 2 Loaded back 2 Ready for loading 2 external, Thanks.

Welcome aboard Spray. Yes, you are going to have loads of fun using GWX. Download the upgrade and the upgrade for Commander (if you use it).

Yes, DD's can pick up your radio messages, as in real life.
