View Full Version : Windows Vista
Well sadly the time has come for me too choose wether to get Vista or not...
Im having problems with XP at the moment so i thought now would be the time to upgrade..
Problem is ive been hearing its "not compatible with this and wont run that" sorta stuff. Can anyone give me a list of what vista has currently screwed up and does it still allow for multimonitors etc?

Personally I will wait to get Vista, at least a year or two. You have probably searched the threads here for various views, I typed just " Vista " and got a bunch of stuff:up:

I think the biggest concerns right now are drivers etc.. from hardware/software companies that need to catch up to vista.

Can anyone give me a list of what vista has currently screwed up Well to be fair, that's a growing and pretty dynamic list.
Make a large pot of coffee, pull up a chair, take off your jacket and stay awhile.

Vista without sp1 is doomed ... :o
Well thanks for the info guys....
I guess i will have to put off buying vista for awhile
Spoke to my isp this morning and they are now going to send me a new modem that is vista capable.
Only fools rush in to buy vista, leave it for a year and then and only then decide.
Two folks I know rushed in and both have regretted doing that.

Leave it until you've upgraded to a computer using nano technology.
Seriously, Vista is a resource hog and will probably make several a bit older/less effective computers almost unusable. Leave it for maybe 1/2 year and then recheck once the major bugs are solved and buried.
Maybe, if you'd describe the problems you are having with XP we could help you out...?
Also, if you're after that cool "Vista-look" there are several skins for XP that make the user interface look JUST like Vista's, REALLY cool!

Eye-candy.
Ease of use (once most bugs are resolved).
Many small improvements (better image processor, widgets etc).
IMO it's a bit of an updated Windows Media Edition, the heaven for music/video freaks, graphic artists, photographers and so on.
And as usual, support for XP will slowly fade away leaving some forced to upgrade.

Not much - better desktop graphics with glass is about the major change, but requires a decent vid card to operate.
DX10 in on Vista.
They say its more secure but they say that about every new rev of everything. Vista keeps popping up with holes every day though.

Well I'll stick with XP then.
At the end of the day, XP was still relatively new so I'm wondering if its just Micro$oft trying to cash in again needlessly.

Good choice,:)

Huh?
XP was released 25th of October -01; 5 1/2 years is a LOT for an operating system!

Im 50/50... One reason is for quicker loading and the other is for all the eye candy..
I have lots of random problems with XP at the moment. Sometimes it will change my theme to old windows for no reason and other it wont find my sound card or some thing similar (these are both rare though) others it will crash games or have even reboot the computer :-?

Vista works fine for me. I thought that I had a problem with one game that I played, but it was my own fault.

Sheeeesh! Don't educate the fools Please! :) " See if Mikey likes it" Then wait a few days to see if Mikey lives or dies!
I personally am going to wait for others to find the bugs and until MS fixes the bugs.
I bought DW a few years ago when it first came out. I am still wading though the darn manual and have waited to get the last patch before I try to learn this game.
I don't really care if VISTA makes it or not myself. I am still learning the in's and out's of Windows XP SP2. Windows XP seems to work good for me so why do I need a new OS?
I also don't go out an buy a new car every two years either. I buy a vehicle and run it until it won't run no more. Then I shop around for 6 months looking for the next vehicle.
Some people have to have the newest things on the market and that's fine buy me. To each his own. I'll let them have first bite of the poisoned apple and see if they live or die. LOL

Gates should concentrate on making more programs (applications) that run on his current OS instead of changing the OS ever 5 years. But Old BILL needs the MONEY! LOL

Five years is a lot of time in the computer world, and I'm sure that an OS staff of any sort is expensive. I'd like to see them put more useful features into their OSes (Decent image editing, a good calculator, full PDF support, etc.), but Vista has made some serious improvements.
You really think that Microsoft released Vista because Bill Gates needed money?

 Some people have to be the Microsoft lab rats. My hat off to them for their dedication to the cause. Excuse me if I wait a year or two before I migrate across to Vista. :smug:

Same approach.
I upgraded from W95/98 just because forced by SHIII and few other interesting titles.

I assume that major development studios today are already using Microsoft supplied SDKs and what not to produce better looking, sounding and playing games that will take advantage of the new and upcoming hardware advances that Vista will support.
So while many new games will be playable in XP, they'll most probably be missing a lot of extra wow factors that Vista only hardware can provide. And at some point, developers will drop XP support but that should still be a while off.
I will delay getting Vista until I consider it stable.

It's a techology advance. One day, when you do need a 64-bit OS, the bugs will be worked out and it will be there for you.

If ya want vista for the looks then just DL the "Vista TRansformation pack 5.5" this will change your windowsXP into vista look. Everything, icons, folders, logins, aero glass, windows, sounds, background images, then u can DL the vista pleasure, media portal etc.,
PC looks just like Vista yet its still XP but u can enjoy the look till your ready to buy the real thing.:)

Nice idea to get XP to look like VI$TA.
Except, my XP still looks like Win98. I never cared for all the resource hog features of XP, I wanted performance for my sims. I only switched to XP because when I worked for GATEWAY as a Phone Tech in a Call Center, M$ released Win XP to all the REPs to install on Home PC to play with it and give comments. Then and now, it still looks like Win98 (Classic style). I would not have paid for it. Though after a few years and patches and upgrades, I now prefer it.
We'll see about VI$TA.
