Listen, ever since the marvelous invetion of the under water boat, or the German U-boat in WWII, people have been interested in subs. I have no reason to think that people will lose that interest. Just my opinion...

U-boats, and submarines in general, had been invented and deployed in the world's navies long before the Second World War.
To the point, SubSim.com will be around so long as there are viable submarine simulations being produced. Accordingly, the more accurate question should be, 'Will submarine simulations be around in 20 years?'

I doubt t he intraweb will be around in 20 years.. at least as we know it. So i had to vote no.
Will it be subsim as we know it, probably not, but as long as there is a committed community who want to keep in contact with one another and as long as there are sub sims around I'd say there will be some form of subsim.com.
confused I am
I'm sure it'll still be here, with the same domain name and all... in a completely upgraded fashion of course. Unless there is some sort of a major global event that destroys the internet somehow.
Yeah, as someone said... as long as subsims are around.
20 years isn't that long a time.

You are very right, but it's my personal opionion that the U-boat was the first submarine that people got very interested, but i am no WWII historian so I might be wrong, but that is certainly how it seems to me

Yep, that`s what they said, it turns out that they lasted for about 2k years... lol
You bet your rock dollar bottom it will be still here.
It's been around for 10 and subsims as such have been around for a good 20.
Personally, I'm far more concerned about true, high-quality subsims being around for that long - I'm really hoping that Silent Hunter never gives up. But even so, we'll be here in 20 years playing the same good subsims, I think

Maybe, Neal's grandson could play SH 14 by then on ultra high speed with instant news the moment it happens in one corner of the plasma wall screen with multiplayer game maps and AI playing for you on x1 while you are at work.
Come home and bang on your mini-mod cabinet telling it to let go of your submarine using voice command. Your new mini-mod cabinet comes with a 10GHZ computer with it's dual quad CPU's and quad gel cooled 3ghz video cards, cooled by a portable air conditoner on wheels that has a little ice maker on the side for your refreshments.
Yeah, baby rock on
I'll be 83, but I'll be here

It certainly did, but did so in the First World War, not the Second. A large part of why u-boat casulties were so high was the fact that the nations of the world were so concerned about the near starvation of Great Britian that they devoted large quantities of money and time to bolster their navies' ASW capability. Submarines, by contrary, recieved very little upgrade in capabilities between the wars.

In 20 years we will all actually be IN the internet. In fact, in 20 years the sub simulations will be so realistic that you will be walking around on what to you is a "real" boat and you will drink what to you is "uboot cocktail". It will be like the Matrix! It will be the greatest! :D

As long as there is a subsim that still can be played on a computer (whatever form it may take) and there are people intrested in submarines, there will be subsim.
Your not planing on going anywhere Neal???

Subsim will be here but with one exception, there will be no internet...it will the neuralnet. We will just plug in a fiber-optic line to a jack in the back of our heads. All information will be processed here. No computers anymore. Things of the past. Billions of bits of information will be processed from the comfort of your arm chair. All games will be played in the video monitor of the mind.
OK....I'll stop sniffing the glue now:shifty:

Twenty years! That's a long time ... Let's do this backwards :yep:
Year 2027 ... Neal's 14 year old grandson takes over the helm for Sub Sim dot com as the long expected release of Silent Hunter Nine approaches. A sub sim simulating submarine warfare on Venus in a war with one of Saturn's satellite moons.
Graphics are so intensive you need a quad core Geforce 1000MKX DDR10 ram just to see the inner beauty of water bubbles inside of the tiny drops of water as the first inter-space missile's are launched underwater by a stealth sub left over from WW IV (what happened to WW III?)(I don't know)
Year 2022 ... Waste Gate gets out of the brig just in time for SH 8 and tells everyone not to buy Silent Hunter VIII due to it's bogus ads of promising triple wide screen acess. Sales are down from the reported 3.5 million sales for SH 7 ... Ubi soft puts out a hit contract on Waste Gate.
Neal denies all wrong doing saying, "Hey! It's just a message board for crying out loud" Neal's been too busy playing with his two nine year old grandson's showing them how to play SH, SH2, SH3, SH4 ... they aren't ready for the big time of SH 5, 6 and 7 yet says Neal.
Year 2017 Sales hit an all time new high for Ubi soft on the release of SH 7 ... reported to be in the neigborhood of 3.5 million downloads for only $9.95 with the new anti-piracy code numbers, no one can get away with illegal copies of software. This is why the total cost for games has been able to come down recently.
Year 2012 Silent Hunter Five was such a dismal failure in 2011 that Ubi soft immeditaly released Silent Hunter Six as a combination of all the world war's from 1917 to 2009 with the soon announced patch 1.3 for Silent Hunter Five sales have fallen off a bit with why wait for another patch when we can get Silent Hunter Six
Small side note: Neal's twin daughters get married to two Annapolis Naval Academy graduates and move to New London, Conn to start their new lives while husbands attend submarine school.

Whos to say that the twin daughters won't be the Annapolis grads attending subs school. Heck maybe they will be the first twin female skippers in the histroy of the US Submarine Service! :hmm:

Not before they became the first female submarine crew members in the history of the US Navy. Remember, no girls allowed.

Yes, it will, provided that new subsims continue to pop up, with more realism, better graphics, or more contents
So I voted "YES"
