You think? Never had a problem and I'm no way a vetran skipper.
I like to have a 'sail by' of the Tripitz on the way out and you have to sail in to the dock to hear the band welcoming you home.

Not sure how anyone else does it, but I follow the escort out by standing on the watch tower and adjusting my course manually to tag along behind it. I also visually dock my boat, stern first, by backing into my slip and coming to a dead stop neatly in place.
Sure, that takes more time, but it sure is a great satisfying way to end a patrol!

When I dock I get under 20km and esc, it's a time thing, don't have enough of it.
I like the option of leaving from port, but not my favorite aspect of the game, for reasons stated above.

I'm a notorious dock crasher, but I keep trying to sail in. And to be really honest I usually autopilot until I'm in sight of the harbor and then drive the boat in(to the harbor wall).
Specially since GWX I jut love looking around at all the activity telling my men not to shoot the big ships around. :smug:

I like to sail back into port
Stand on the bridge and manually navigate
Its the only time you get bad weather in port

Like me in Narvik, where they stole my electric torpedoes.

I tend to ride the sub back to within 2 clicks and then telliport the rest. Mainly as was said above, to save time and get back out again.
I always follow the Destroyer out though, so maybe I will give it a go on my day off(whenever that is:hmm: )

I always sail into and out of port, all the way. I also obey the harbor traffic laws: 5 knots maximum inside the breakwater, 2 knots when maneuvering to or away from the docks.
It's my favorite part of the game.:sunny:

Depends. Sometimes I teleport and sometimes I take her in and out on my own. Yep, in and out all by myself. In and out...in and out...in and...*wakes up from dream*
Sorry. I've been at sea too long...

Don't want to miss the eye candy around the dock after a long patrol. I dock next to the band and the babes. :D
Crashing into dock . . .
. . . Priceless.

I teleport back when the option becomes available. I used to manually dock the boat, but it got boring after a while.
Wait a sec.
Look at BBW's screenshot entering Tron. Lower left of the Uzo(EDIT: Not periscope) tower. The engine telegraph shows FLank Ahead!!!!!! A jetty basher eh? I teleport once I'm within 5KMs or so of the dock.

Does "teleport back" mean that we use the "Dock at: ____" option? I think a distinction should be made there. It's one thing to zoom back to base from the Strait of Gibraltar than it is to ena a patrol right outside port! :hmm:

Ja--big difference, but it gives the babes at the dock a thrill to see you majestically approach the dock as an Olympian Ruler of the Deep. :smug:

Used to dock manually, steering it all from topside, but now I just get myself to within two or three clicks and hit the ESC key. Besides, those nurses will be there tomorrow when i head back out...

I would looove to sail back to port manually, but my crappy PC crashes when in harbor (sometimes). I can't just take the risk. So I use the teleporter . Wish I can find a way to increase FPS in harbors.

Alright alright I Confess!
Yes, I have gotten in and out of port. :rotfl:
I was going to suggest hey wouldn't it be cool to have a option to teleport not just back to base, but back to a closer freindly port if you wanted to. Or, instead of just teleporting and ending the patrol it would be better to be just outside of port, then having to manualy finish docking.
But then I thought, this would just open a can of worms with the uber realists and start a civil war with the super mod players.
Would my boat float, sink or rise? hahaha :rotfl::rotfl:

Teleport to near base would save us from those long drudges without torps, still expose us to the possible air attacks near home and give us the satisfaction of properly docking by the babes :yep: :yep:
Of course I am docking! That's part of the patrol. And I like the band... The MOST thing I'm missing when docking is the up-scope with the flags of all my success flying in the wind.
THAT would be a killer!

Depends on how I feel - some patrols I just select "Dock at...." when im about 6km from port. Other time I dock straight into port with crew on deck.

I get close to 20 klm and then use the dock at option! I am too tired to dock it myself .although it is not difficult , it is time consuming proccess. ! I prefer to rest and the crew reload , recruit, promote award and back to the hunt as soon as possible!

I always hit the fast forward to get out of the area of those dam*ed boats all over the place & I do a mega fast forward after I fire my last torp & get it over with as fast as possible..
Maybe I should try docking once just for grinns, but I don't know if my body system could take looking at those horrible trees in the background...See SpruceMs' pic above...lol..

I'm a noob with only 2 patrols under my belt. First time I teleported and last night I backed it in. If I have the time bringing her into to port is cool.
Forgive the ignorance but where do you see the Band playing? Is that just a GWX thing or did I go to the wrong place in Kiel? And escorts out??

I think I remember absolutly no ships in friendly harbors before GWX.
As far as the bands, I think they were there before hand, just look to the left or the right of your boat as you launch. They should be there.

It's a stock-out-of-the-box thing. The band - and the cheering crowds - are on the main departure pier. If you start from and return to the sub pen you won't see them.

Good question Brag,
As any good Kapt. I bring my own Boat back to dock. But I've got to tell you I have been on a Diesel Boat coming into port. Now I have to say, it depends on the officer. My Capt., LtCmdr Fudge, (true name) never had a problem. But every once in a while he would let the XO or a first Lt. bring the boat in. My job was the anchor detail. Which means I stood on the bow with a couple of other seaman to drop the anchor in case on an emergency.
Well sometimes it was a real cluster going on. Very few ports in this world don't have currents going on. So it can be real exciting trying to bring a sub up to the dock. Going forward, backing down, going forward, backing down. You get the picture. Only to have the newbie pile into the docks wooden pillings (sp).............:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
