View Full Version : GWX Diminishing performance needs research

A rather unusual thing i noted last night whilst continuing my patrol in the western approaches. Early in the evening i intercepted two tramp steamers and dispatched them both with relative ease. I celebrated with a can of the finest Heineken and continued to patrol with can #2 in hand. Pickings were slim and by the time i found my next customer (a medium merchant) i was on can #4. Now heres the thing, it took 3 eels to hit him at close range and another to finish the task. Can #6 was being sampled when i found the pyro ship which refused to be hit at 800m by all 4 bow torps. I believe i saw people on board pointing and laughing at me. The degrees of incompetence seemed to be proportional to the amount of beer consumed.
Is this a software problem or have i discovered a previously unknown link between alcohol and co-ordination? Maybe i should post this on the Lancet website as well:hmm:

I wouldn't jump to conclusions here and there's been no previous evidence of alcohol affecting co-ordination.:D

Instead, you might like to pick from this list when trying to explain this strange behaviour.....

1) The GWX 1.02 patch installer caused it,:p
2) SH3Cmdr must have applied a mid-patrol malfunction,
3) Magnetic fluctuations in the earth's crust affected the torps trajectory,
4) Bernard was at the TDC
5) All of the above.

From experience, I can catagorically say that alcohol will not effect judgement or the abilty to control your boat/self.:rotfl:

First dan, take a good look at yourself :)
your flying perfomance drops with 99% when you had a couple of JD's

I know but in my defence, it was nearly 1/2 a litre of JD.

Yeah excuses, excuses:roll:.

My point being alcohol will not affect you being able to hit a bloody pyro. The damn thing is huge.:rotfl::arrgh!:

I did attack a barn door from extremely close range as well without any results. I assumed it was a Q-barn door with ASW measures. Think i'll try to recreate the experiment again tonight and possibly increase the parameters:D In the interests of research you understand?

IF that's true then it must have one hell of an impact on the memory then :rotfl: :rotfl:

Alcohol and commanding a u-boat don't mix. Your are lucky not to get pulled over by the Coast Guard for a breathlyzer test, arrested and thrown in the drunk tank. Now get yourself to a rehab center!

If one of those hotshot Coast guard boats is bothering you, you know what to do...2 G7(e)'s in the arse will send him on his way...

Me weird? I just spend my free time among people with murderous intent. Then I go on patrol and sink ships bringing toys to the boys and girls in Britain. And I happen to like my torpedo-hauling sumbie. And I like to have a drink and talk to the girls at the dock. I don't have time to be weird. :smug:

Just to clear up the original (pre-drinks) question:

It's not GWX's fault...it's a stock game bug.

There was a pre drinks question ?

I can attest to the fact that alcohol does not affect your patrol performance. I actually love playing SH3 after a few drinks. I can only wonder what my crew says about their "Mad Drunk Kaleun" behind my back.

I actually prefer to think of myself as a modern day Thomsen. In fact, in those situations when I've had quite a bit to drink, I'll stand up on my computer chair and point at my own ship in the external camera mode and scream "THOOOMSEN! DAS IST THOOOMSEN!"

In related news, my cat and my neighbors think I'm absolutely batsh*t crazy.

I thnk we need to set up a beta test to make sure that the alcohol is not the cause of the problem. :D

Everyone who has posted needs to start a new career making sure that Bernard is not aboard, then have a measured amount of alcohol for each ship sunk. I vote for folling the 1 can of Henekin so that we are replicating Foghladh_mhara's experience.

If by ship/can #6 more than 50% of us can't hit a barn door the size of a Pyro, then the problem is almost definately a software one or is it alcohol? bugger it by can 6 I've forgotten what the target was and am using the hydrophone to look for can 7.

Ok I'll put this thread to bed by reassuring all captains that the problem seems to have been with me all along. I replicated the experiment on my own last night minus SH3/GWX and guess what? My work performance this morning has suffered as well! Seeing as I cant believe the good people at Heineken would sell a product that warps peoples perceptions the common denominator appears to be me. I would like to apologise unreservedly to the people who have spent so much time modding a game for ingrates like me, for believing that GWX might have had a glitch. I hang my head in shame:cry:

Hang on! I'm only half way thru my first beta test run and I'm also feeling that my aim is getting worse. Could it really be the beer? I'm with foghlhad it must be me as well. Perhaps there is a DNA problem?

Well you've lost the ability to spell my username so theres something happening there! I suppose it would be theoretically possible to remove beer from the equation....:hmm:
