Mate if you live in OZ $3000 is a massive over estimate don't you think. A $1500 box will play it just fine and $2000 will get u a core2duo with x1950xt 2gig ram and dual sata in raid 0... if u get bootom end core2duo u can even get the 8800 in that box for less than 2K.

Originally I saw it was March 13th in the States, now I am seeing March 23rd.

Anyone able ot clarrify the American release date?

I don't think people should get freaked out about having to have a super high end system in order to play and enjoy SH4. My worry (which has now been addressed by Ubisoft) was that when they were posting 512MB RAM as a minimum spec, they were creating a false sense of security for those with low end systems.

SH4 will not run on a low end system. You need a mid range Nvidia/Ati card or higher, at least 1 GIG of RAM and a decent processor. That said, if you only have a Pentium P4 and something like an Nvidia 6800 video card, you can run and enjoy this game at very decent graphical settings.

I honestly don't think anyone took that seriously. Most gamers disregard the posted "minimum" specs and focus on the "recommended" specs as a benchmark. That 512MB was more than likely ignored outright from the very onset.

I agree with you, Flintlock. My concern was for the folks who found their way here who are not gamers as such and who have less powerful systems.

I assume the game will be going gold any time now. maybe by the first of march.
The game will probably be mass produced and shipped within two weeks of going gold.

I think we need a sticky thread for this game requirments fiasco.

I tend to keep my comps for around 5 years and to future proof for 5 years with a new monitor will be around $3000 .

02-22-07, 04:24 PM
Future proof is a misnomer, but especially so when dealing with technology. Users that use hardware taxing apps are in a perpetual state of system upgrades, be that component or wholesale system swaps. Those that use computers for email, word processing and web browsing can reasonably expect to go for a few years between upgrades, minor or otherwise. Definitely not an inexpensive process for those in the former group.

Usually games have a two week period between going gold and hitting the shelf. If the release date holds firm (which could still change), I would say early next week.

Sounds like you are 'waisted' already judging by that typing. Heheheheh

No drug abuse for me (drug abuse I define as taking any drug that is not medically motivated and is harmful). I make exceptions for smaller amounts of caffeine  though could I find the same substances/drinks (chocolate/tea) without it, I'd choose it instead.

What about the rest of you?

"What! You mean to tell me that when you wake up in the morning that's as good as you are going to feel all day!"

Usually 2-4 weeks is the standard (3-4 weeks being what i have seen most).

Also, keep in mind, that it is possible for a game to go Gold and the news not be sent out for a little bit of time.

Yeah, but going gold pre-supposes that Beta Testing is complete. I have it on very good authority that Beta Testing is not yet complete on SH4.

The Devs make the call. It's a priveledge. It's a great mix of hard work and game play. The Devs expect constant and accurate feedback. Ironically, some of the gaming websites give more away due to their brief 'hands on' of the game than the Beta Testers are permitted to do because of the strict non disclosure agreement agreed to by any Beta Tester.

For those speculating about specs though, I will say that I have a mid range system with a P4 3.0 processor, an XFX 256MB GeForce 7600GT video card and 2 GIGs of system RAM, and I run the unoptimized Beta version of the game at the highest graphical settings with no issues at all.

I can't comment on specifics of the game.

Serously tho', I never could get into that one - despite all of the fine work done by the modding community - it was just so - sterile.

Yeah i also had problems getting into that game. Fair enough its quite old but the controls and general level design were so stale.....

Well its now exactly 3 weeks till a SH4 release in UK (earlyer in US)

A privleidge that, unfortunatly, i really don't have the proper time to devote to right now. Needless to say, the last email i got from an Ubi address went unanswered. I know i'll regret that, but, i simply dont have the time or dedication right now to give it the attention it deserves. Truth be told, im burnt out. I think im going to take a sub simming until sh4 goes retail - burnout's a bitch.

We can't let it get us down ...

Think postive, they're going to give us IJN subs to practice on ... :yep:

@ TDK,

Thank you for your candor, and while I do not worry too much about my own system spec's to run SHIV. I find myself confused with your statement; "unoptimized".

With your stated system, which is quite high IMO. The added "unoptimized" is a qualified statement.

I remember the same statement added to Crysis at the E3 show. Although i think in that regards, it was implied that the optimized setup was for multithreading and in particular, the use of DX 10, non of which really applies to SHIV in any great bounds.
