we set a new record today!
Records were made to be broken ... I remember breaking the record for hamburgers sold at a place I was working at in Houston called the Chuc Wagon ...
We sold 1,000 hamburgers in one day and that was a bunch ...
Then I broke the record at Astroworld taking 3,000 pictures in one day ...
Lets break some records ...
edit: 930 captains and climbing
Passing 950 feet, err, viewers, captain! :ping:

Very, very impressive for a naval simulations forum. You've got quite the community going Neal. Thanks for giving us a place to hang out. :)

Wow, I can't imagine the closer we get to mid-March.
The GWX release set the last record.
What has caused this one? Silent Hunter IV?

Ah, but the question still remains: do stowaways really count?
C'mon, you slackers, post something! Or at least log on, so we can see who you are!
Or would that be too many names and overload the counter and break the internet?
THIS JUST IN: SUBSIM.COM DESTROYS THE WORLD!
It's finally settled down, but wow, did we ever get close to the 1,000 mark today! (986)

I've noticed that the counter has taken some serious jumps in the last couple months...it was at like 300 a couple of months ago, and now we've hit 986.

My answer is SHIV. Just look at the forum stats thread and people talking about the "SHIII bumper crop of 2005" in terms of the members joined - no doubt a high-profile subsim raises subsim's profile and piques the interest. Heck, I began browsing subsim during the similar SHIII pre-release hype myself!

Just wait once the first Gato class leaves dry dock in a few more weeks. That'll open the floodgates.

Did you hear about the stowaway on a big passenger ship out of England back in the early 1950's...?
Well as the story goes, he wasn't really a stowaway, but he was a lower class passenger ... He had saved his money and he barely had enough to purchase the base rate ticket ... He brought some crackers and dried meats with him, but day after day he would see the other passengers go to the main dinning rooms to eat a glorious meal as he unwrapped the meager food bits he had left over in his napkin.
The crossing took several days and near the end he ran out of food. He was leaning on the rail of the ship watching all of the other passengers file out of the main ball room after their evening meal, when he let out an esperated groan that a fellow passenger heard. The concerned gentleman next to him said, "What's wrong are you sick"? "May I help you, sir"?
The by now quite hungry man said, "Oh, if I could only afford to purchase a meal like the other passengers" "I would be so happy"
The gentleman said, "Let me see your ticket" The hungry man felt in his rumpled suit jacket pockets for his ticket and presented it to the concerned gentleman at the rail.
He looked at the ticket and exclaimed, "Why sir, don't you realize that this ticket entitles you to the same meals as the other passengers"? "It was included in the price of you ticket"
Same with the stowaway's that visit subsim.com ... the news, the forums, the downloads, the fellowship, the FAQ's, the reviews, the Naval news ... all belong to the stowaways too ... All they have to do is say, "Hey, I like you guys and the way you treat each other". Like minded people seem to stick together.
"Here's my user name and where can I park my signature" is all they have left to do ... :yep:
