View Full Version : Canadians - preorders?
I still haven't pre-ordered my copy and now with less than 3 weeks to go to North American release I think it's about time. Seems like both Europeans and Americans have got their arrangements figured out, but we're still a bit unclear here...
My understanding is that Amazon will not ship to Canada and Amazon.ca won't have it on pre-order. Does Ubi ship to Canada? (certainly not the super-duper collector's edition...)
Where should I get mine from if I want to ensure being delivered a copy on time?
Neal - still any chance of a direct subsim batch order? I'd still take it up if you offered :hmm:

I searched for this as well, found it at bestbuy.ca, release date being March 15.
Have not seen anything at Amazon.ca either. Ordered SH3 from Amazon.ca, has it in a couple of days.
I have never ordered from BB as of yet, so I am unsure of their delivery speed, etc.

Ubi will ship to Canada (not referring to the DE), though it's still pricey. I think your best bet is to get it at a brick and mortar location (Future Shop, Best Buy or EB Games) on release day. Best Buy already has it for pre-order on their site (haven't checked the others). Best Buy and Future Shop usually knock off about $10 for the first few days of release too, so you may be able to pick it up for about $39.99 CAD.

My outta control link above is to bestbuy.ca too, but I concede that yes, your link is shorter, but not better. ;)

I think I will be doing this in the end, unless Amazon.ca gets on the ball and lists it:damn:
I'm still split on whether I should get it from Ubi or take my chances on 'brick and mortar'. Yes, I know it's more pricey, but I had really bad luck with 'real' stores - they never had it on release date, and I dare say they usually had it too late. They're good with uber-popular games, but subsims and such - much less so. I know that was the case with SHIII...
Just to note - what I really want is to have the game ASAP, that's the main determining factor for me. I can handle a few extra bucks for that, just don't want to be (again) stuck with a week of people taunting me with screenshots and other cool stuff (as was with SHIII).
I think I will take a trip later today to my local EBX here in Toronto and put a pre-order in. They just ensure that they hold a copy for you.

I will be going by a Future Shop tommorow, I may stop in to see if they can give me an idea when they will have it.
What I would like to know is if I (or any other Canadians) buy a copy at a brick and mortar store on the release day or soon after, will we be able to get the extra bonus items that will be included for a limited time? Actually, a better question is how long will these items be available?

I don't know of course, but I would suspect 'yes' considering we are probably getting the generic North American release and the first print run of that will most likely feature those things. If they said 'all early copies', I would imagine it to imply the entire early print run.
I don't work for Ubi of course so I wouldn't know for sure.

Of course.:yep: I was just hoping someone had a good estimate, and yours seems reasonable to me.
BTW - how long was the limited bonus recognition manual available for SHIII? (I don't have that edition, but I heard about it somewhere.) This might help let us know how long the bonus materials will be available this time, although things could have changed completely by now.
I don't think there was a special edition of SHIII. There was a limited run of I forget how many recognition manuals that you could order separately for about $10 or so. I THINK there might have been some places (Ubi?) where if you ordered the game you got the manual along with it, but it wasn't a boxed type of deal or anything.
My sense is that SHIII was much more of a 'shot in the dark' and though some people are saying "SHIV won't be as popular as SHIII", my sense is actually that Ubi is treating SHIV as a much more potent release and that's why we're getting all this little 'special' stuff with it, and multiple editions.

In reference to the North American release of SH4, Ubi's US Community Manager had this to say (I've included the pertinent info):
This information pertains only to US/Canada.
When Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific is released, every copy of the game will include premium bonus material for a limited time! We asked our community members what they wanted, and crammed every single little thing that we could into the packaging just for you guys! Wanna know what's in it? Check out the list below:
* Premium Packaging
* 100+ page manual including reference material
* Fold-out historical map of the Pacific theater
* Fold out ship recognition poster
* Quick Reference Card
* 1-hour of WWII-era documentary footage about U.S. submarines from Periscope Films on a Bonus DVD
This announcement is for the packaging which is available for a limited time. It is NOT a limited/special edition.
That means that you will get all these goodies if you pre-order from Ubi, buy it in your local gaming store, or buy it online as long as it's in US/Canada and during the limited time it's available.
After the limited time, they'll change over to a basic package with only some/none of the goodies.
Hopefully this helps clear some things up and answers a few questions.
Note: Emphasis mine.

I'll probably end up buying it at Futureshop as well. I just hope their copies have the limited release materials.
