Well I'm a member of both forums, here at subsim and also over at UBI. I was hoping to find some interest in a short story competition. While this is not my idea at all, I often do like to right stories and have seen many stories posted that rival my own and I find a good read. I think this is a good way to no only join the two forums to some extent but also to get the hard work of those writing stories recognized.
There is nothing more disturbing at least to me that writing something and then not seeing a single comment posted about it, either good or bad. I know some real hard work goes into any type of writing and now this could be a chance to also show both forums your hidden or in some cases not so hidden talent.
The invite goes out to all story writers, and I do not know if I even have permission to invite but the more writers the better the competition is.
I have read many stories here on the subsim forum that are great and should be read by others and now is your chance.
If your interested in this please stop by the UBI Forum at the below link. You should be able to find the rules and dates for the next contest. If there is not enough interest then I believe the contest will stop and all those long hours spent writing for all of us could be lost.
Hope to see you there

Can the sticky link at the top of this channel be passed forward to the UBI forums?
Dan Biddles - Hechler's war
This is an excellent read.
I just been to the UBI forum and was unable to register. Besides I was confused. Where are the contest rules? I think it will be fun to enter

Trying to work both sides of the forum here and it can prove to be a challenge. The rules are simple however I'm not 100% sure that these rules are the only rules at this time. The short story contest never really took off so there may be room to adjust or modify the rules.
The only rules I remember and that are posted are as followed
The closing date for all entries is the 27th January 2007.
The normal rules apply, a minimum of 1500 words
No pics or screenshots (keeps 56K users from getting headaches)
I believe content and language is also a rule but I cant find it.
I will try and get an answer to you about more rules and who is running it.
I did post a link to the subsim sticky as mentioned above in your post. So hopefully we will be able to link this together.
Also there is a screenshot contest as well on the UBI forum that you might be interested if you happen to have good shots. The rules are very strict so please read them carefully before posting in that forum. As always if there are any questions lots of friendly people are there to help and answer you.
As for the UBI forum registration I dont know why it would give you a hard time, it should simply be choose a name and password and fill in the required info. I didn't have a problem with it when i signed up. If you continue to have a problem feel free to ask for help.
Have a great day

Ok looks like the person running the SH3 short story contest will be RealJambo over at the UBI SH3 Forum. Thanks to the many people that have expressed an interest we saved the short story comp from going under.
Rules are as followed at this time.
(Taken from previous post on UBI)
--Ok I think we have a go Houston! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
I propose the following guidelines - I am open to bribes suggestions, but tentatively suggest:
* Wording: Minimum 1500 and no maximum - but do bear in mind very very long entries may put some readers off.
* No screenshots - we're trying to encourage participation from other forum members and the added task of capturing and posting specific screenshots may be discouraging, and the quality of the screenshots - good or bad - could divert attention from the writing content.
* Let's start actually posting the entries from March 1st (gives us time to get writing) and have a deadline of the 18th (ala the Screenshot comp - seeing as I stay up 'til midnight to administrate the posting/voting threads that night anyway) and voting finishing on the 31st.
* Complete stories and parts of stories are fine. Best to include links back to the previous parts if it isn't a complete story you are entering.
Now I have to remind you we won't be able to sticky this comp. Provided the comp is supported well, then that may change but for now we'll just have to see how it goes. I'll make sure the posting thread isn't buried so don't worry.
As for the certificate, I'll come back to you about that, just need to check a few things.
Any Questions? If we're all happy - I'll give you all time to think and post back, I'll start a new thread tomorrow announcing the March Comp.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Threads will remain on the UBI forum for now or could be double posted I guess for anyone interested.
Hope to see some of your writings and creativness soon.
