Dang @ almost $10K I'd like to see a museum pick this up rather than go into the wild blue yonder.

I don't know what to say other than that.

I'm kinda torn between what to do with stuff you would never use and stuff with historical value.

What do you do with something of this Value...?

What would prompt someone to sell something like this?

Does the individual know of the history of it?

Does the individual give a damn about the historical value?

I dont know .... maybe the individual selling it has a crack habit?:hmm:

What's this ring about? does the US Navy hand out rings to it's officers?

Nice idea if they do.

Read the EBay entry. This appears to be an estate liquidation.

More likely it was an unofficial "hey lets all chip in and get some ship rings made up" kinda thing. Military people do that kind of stuff all the time.

It belongs in a museum but most just want the money. If it is an estate liquidation as Avon stated as seeing. Then perhaps to pay off some old bills or just a greedy person. How did they come to that value is the question?

The ring has been on Ebay quite a few times, with no takers. It is way over priced IMHO, but I am not a militaria collector.

It is really cool, esp. since the fellow served on her during F.D.R.'s cruise, but I am not so sure that it is a 'musemn' piece. I know that the standards for what is and what isn't something to be set out in a building for public viewing due to its historical signifigance. That is something to be decided by the folks who control the purse-strings at the Smithsonian.

If it was the class ring of a Butch O'Hare or a Richard O'Kane, then I would feel very differently about it....

My worthless .02, which is kinda an oxymoron, huh?

To my way of thinking, this is much more of a musemn piece:
