Hey guys (and Avon Lady)

As a married man I have to tell you all that it is hard to find the time to game for long periods. Commitments, kids, work, fixer-ups, traffic, honey-do's....

I finally found a day to actually just take off work and sim.

I play with the U-Boat realism mod so these figures won't reflect SHIII for casual players with low realism modes.

I do my own TMAs and attacks without any aid from the AI. I'm not as INCREDIBLE as a lot of the prodigies on this site but I can definitely hold my own.

Found an eastward-bound convoy with 4 escorts (1943 era, no snorkles but decoys). Daytime encounter after sonar tracking at long range.

Sank the following:

small merchant 2422 tons
small merchant 2423 tons
C3 cargo 7902 tons
C2 cargo 6447 tons
T2 tanker 10,821 tons (woah!)
C2 cargo 6448 ton

total 36,463 tons

I've still got it.

:)

I had to tell someone.

Good patrol, mate!!:up: Time is a valuable resource, mate, but as long as your priorities are with your family, i dont think you should worry!:up:

I'm guessing you make all range estimates with the stadimeter? If so - hardcore. I still rely on the WO for my estimates, and i tell you - i'm ashamed of it. Doing manual TMA with stad readings would be _challenging_.

Edit: P.S. NICE TONNAGE

It's not as hard as you think to use the manual systems. Give it a try on your next run. Use spreads if you are not sure of target aspect angle. When you get it down you'll realize the thrill of not hunting ducks with a ZSU-23.

Congratz! Good patrol -- wives can be as challenging as a bunch of DDs out to get your bonkums. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can relate to Snakeeyes. Im a college student, taking a full load of classes plus i work part time 15-20 hours a week driving a zamboni. When im not in school or at work, im either doing homework, writing essays for English Comp or doing math, Calculus. So on a good day i might play about 1-2 hours of SH3, but when i play i kick ass.

Um... "driving a zamboni?"

That's not prison-lingo is it?

hahaha, nah i work at an ice rink in Haverhill, and i drive the "ice Resurfacing" vechicle, its not really a zamboni, its an Olympia, haha, its a fun job but it gets chilly in there, but its going to be a nice cool summer for me.

nice 1 hunt

what about DDs?

last time I bumped into convoy west of africa heading to gibraltar (late 43), Ive spent several hours hunting each other with DDs on rough seas....in the end Ive sank 4 DDs (!!!) and when I was about to attack defensless convoy (with only 2 eels left), Ive encountered another convoy going in opposite direction with 5 fresh escorting DDs!!!!

Managed to sneak away but pi$$ed off!!!!!

Important thing is to get the speed, course and AOB right (this is why the 90° method works great). The distance has no real importance besides estimating the torpedo run time...

TMA is only used in modern subs i guess:hmm:.

Acutally, I'm going to try using a homing torpedo to go up against destroyers tonight. Wish me luck and check the next thread. :)

Make sure they are fast speed (over 12 knts) for the homing torpedo to work. Set it to 5m / magnetic, most DDs are 3,5 to 4 m draft...
One method is having one in the stern tube, signalize to a DD you're there, it will come full speed for you. Risky business though, make sure you're far enough when saying "hello"...:D
