Hi and thanks for your help.

I've deleted my history and refreshed the page, but all I'm seeing under hotfixes is this:

1. 23 December 2006 Patch - includes all fixes and corrections since GWX release - 10mb (MD5 hash: 59d307aa005279a45f657d9ab8526841)

All those links give you the same Dec-23 Update files. There are more than one link as different people uploaded the files to give people more options to download them. If you want the Dec-23 patch you just have to click on ONE of those links.

Many thanks to the GWX team...:up:

A question though...I'm in the middle of a patrol right now. What effect will the patch have on my saved game?...

............

edit: And another problem....

I removed via JSGME all mods, rolled back SH3cmmdr and run the setup...this error message appears...

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4408/kjkjew9.jpg

I dont get it. All mods are de-activated via JSGME...what is wrong?...

danlisa
02-20-07, 07:16 AM
@ Dante80

Installation

Before installing:

- DISABLE all activated modifications if you use the "Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler" (JSGME). You cannot use JSGME to install GWX Patch 1.02, but you can use JSGME to activate other modifications after GWX Patch 1.02 is installed.

- REMOVE any installed SH3 Commander files (if you use "SH3 Commander") by pressing the "Rollback SH3" button from within SH3 Commander.

- ENSURE your active careers are all safely docked in port!

It is important that you follow these steps as the installer will look for SH3 Commander and JSGME files and will halt if any are found. Likewise the installer will halt if it does not find certain key GWX files.
This should see you right.

Yep. First thing I did was to read carefully the info and do all of the above. Why the error message?...as I show, no mods are enabled in JSGME. Sh3Cmmdr is rolled back, and my last save is in a patrol. Should I delete my last saves too? (that would be a disaster, I'm returning from the most nerve shattering and breathtaking patrol in my carreer)

I removed via JSGME all mods, rolled back SH3cmmdr and run the setup...this error message appears
Always Rollback SH3Cmdr

then

Disable/Enable Mods via JSGME.

You appear to have done this in the wrong order.

Do you have a 'clean' copy of SH3 and/or GWX saved on your HDD?

no mods are enabled in JSGME. Sh3Cmmdr is rolled back, and my last save is in a patrol. Should I delete my last saves too? (that would be a disaster, I'm returning from the most nerve shattering and breathtaking patrol in my carreer)

EDIT - You may need to read MORE carefully, YOU MUST BE DOCKED & IN PORT.

Captain Nemo

You must be in port when you apply the patch. I've just left port on my current patrol so won't be able to apply the patch until I get back to Kiel.

Yes I know what you mean, but its not a problem. SH3cmmdr was rolled back BEFORE the mods were de-activated. As I always try new mods, I have the habit to rollback SH3cmmdr every time I finish playing (A pop up is shown just as you exit the game or crash to DT). There is no way that I installed or uninstalled mods with SH3cmmdr enabled.

Hm...now that I remember, I have changed manually some files (added Queen Mary without JSGME and slightly increased renown alloted for airplanes). Could the patch see these changes as JSGME mods enabled?...if that is correct, I'll go to full uninstall - re-install *sigh*...

edit: If the midpatrol saved game does it, I'll finish the patrol and try the patch then. Thanks for the help mate....

Assuming that you've opened the JSGME that is installed in the same folder as the SilentHunterIII that you want to patch, then you must have residual files left under that JSGME install, most likely from manually deleting mods that were still installed.

To check, open up the SilentHunterIII folder that you want to install the patch into (in Windows Explorer). You should see a MODS sub folder. Under it will be a !BACKUP folder. If you have ANY FILES under that backup folder, then, based on your screenshot above, you have residual files left over from previous mods. To be blunt, this would be indicative of poor housekeeping (not disabling or enabling mods correctly or deleting mods that are still enabled).

*If* this is the case, then you have two options:

1. Delete everything under the !BACKUP folder and "hope for the best", recognising that any subsequent CTDs will most likely be caused by conflicting files (if the installer doesn't pick it up of course).

2. Trash the install and start again.

Personally, I'd go the latter (your CTD comment above, whilst perhaps flippant, seems suggestive of an unstable installation).

Now if you *don't* have any files under !BACKUP then your problem is most likely easier to correct - simply make sure that the installation you selected in the installer is the same as the installation for which you disabled the mods. ;)

EDIT: No, you won't get this error if you manually modified files directly in your SH3. You may, however, get another error (which does not look to be the case here) saying that you don't have a proper GWX install. However, simply installing a new ship and editing renown should not upset the installer. But you will need to re-add the ship to your *Names.cfg file afterwards, but that should be all that is required.

Hi all!
Thanks a lot to the GWX-team for the new patch!

I got an installation problem with it.
Before patch execution, i docked in port, disabled all mods with JGSME and rolled back SH3Commander. As i have read so far, maybe i did it in the wrong order and rolled back the Commander-files after disabling the mods :-?

Now i always recieve errormessage: GWX-keyfiles not found. Of course they are installed!

GWXInstErr.log says:
Verification of "C:\...\SilentHunterIII" by The Grey Wolves Expansion failed.
Test 1 = PASSED
Test 2 = PASSED
Test 3 = PASSED
Test 4 = PASSED
Test 5 = FAILED - 7926dfba48a3c9d7ec69b9acf6f066bc

What can i do now? Thanks for all help

edit: the only mod i installed manually is Carotios_World_Map_for_GWX-1.3

Can not install the patch. :damn:

All boats docked and all mods removed by JSGM and rolled back SH3C. I get this message.

Setup identified the following problem(s) with the selected folder:

-SH3 Commander files were found. Please roll back SH3 Commander before continuling.

-Key GWX files were not found. This patch must be installed over a copy of Silent Hunter III containing GWX (with or without existing hotfixes). Please ensure the selected installation has GWX installed before continuing.

Bet you a dollar that this mod is causing the problem.

The patcher is looking for a GWX 'digital footprint' before it will install the update.

Did you backup the original files before adding the above mod?

JScones, the author of the patcher, will have an exact answer for you as IIRC the error code relates to something specific.

You can wait for him to respond or you can reinstall. However, this time when you reinstall create a copy of SH3 + 1.4b + GWX and save it somewhere safe. Then if the unthinkable should happen again, just copy & paste and you have a 'clean' installation again. It's much quicker than using the discs.

Oh, Welcome to Subsim, mate. I'm just sorry that it's not in better circumstances.

danlisa

Rolled back SHC first of all.

Hi STEED,

I'm guessing here, but.....

1)SH3Cmdr files found - is it possible that (at some point) SH3Cmdr was not rolledback correctly? (before now).

2)Non-GWX files Found - Have you ever manually added a mod, changed a cfg file (aka Renown/Realism hack;)), left any skin files in your installation etc....

This patcher is very specific in what it needs. The slightest change to something like a cfg file will abort the install.

Do you have a saved copy of SH3 + 1.4b + GWX ?

This patcher is very specific in what it needs. The slightest change to something like a cfg file will abort the install.

Like which change, for example?

I did a change in the commands_en.cfg, to have the Enter-key set TC to 1x:
[Cmd6]
Name=Time_compr_normal
Ctxt=1,2,6,9
Key0=0x0D,,"Enter"
What does the default look like? Forgot to make a backup of this file.

I also edited Basic.cfg, to get a bit more renown for my patrol-grid results.

Will these small tweaks screw my 1.02 installation?
Not that I can apply the patch right now...I'm in mid-patrol, with still a full load of torps.

Btw, welcome, patterchon:up:

@XO
Just delete your, Key0=0x0D,,"Enter" line from Commands_en.cfg and it will look like the default again.
If you use SH3 Commander, might I suggest that, in the future, instead of changing that file manually, you use SH3 Commander to change it? This way SH3 Commander will make the changes everytime you "Launch SH3", and undo them every time you do a rollback. Then you don't have to worry about losing or undoing your manual changes when adding mods or patches like this one.

At the end of the \SH3 Commander\Cfg\Static settings.cfg file, just put the lines:

[data\Cfg\Commands_en.cfg]
Cmd6|Key0=0x0D,,"Enter"

For changes to the Basic.cfg file
Again, at the end of the \SH3 Commander\Cfg\Static settings.cfg file, just put the lines:

[data\Cfg\Basic.cfg]
RENOWN|RenownReachGridObjCompleted=200
RENOWN|RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
RENOWN|CompletedPatrol=100

Obviously changing the values to the renown you want for that activity.

Another 2 questions (haven't come up yet, I think):

- What if you're using SH3Weather, together with SH3Commander, in GWX?
Is it enough to perform a SH3C rollback?

- What about the grammophone folder?

bigboywooly

SH3 weather shouldnt matter as a rollback of commander will remove those files

I dont think the gramaphone matters either

Just to summarise and clarify the installer checks, as it seems some people for what ever reason refuse to believe the installer is right! ;)

Trust me though, it is. It is doing a very non-emotive, methodical check of your system. It simply reports what it finds. And with these checks it won't be wrong.

The error messages and likely causes are:

Modifications installed via JSGME were found. Please disable all mods before continuing.

You have mods installed via JSGME. Simply disable them. If your JSGME displays no mods enabled, before accusing the installer of being an idiot, check your MODS\!BACKUP folder. If there are ANY files there, IT MEANS YOU HAVE MODS ENABLED VIA JSGME!!! What it more specifically means is that you most likely deleted a mod in the past without disabling it first.

Now don't just delete the !BACKUP folder and files, because whilst this will make the installer happy, it won't make you happy in 20 minutes time when your game starts acting erradically due to conflicting files caused by the wayward mod that is still installed.

SH3 Commander files were found. Please roll back SH3 Commander before continuing.

The installer found evidence of SH3Cmdr files in your installation. Open SH3Cmdr and press the Rollback button. Again, if you have done this and the error persists, then what has most likely happened is:

a) you didn't rollback correctly at some earlier time, thus leaving SH3Cmdr files in your installation.

b) you have installed other mods that are being recognised as SH3Cmdr files (because the files are similar, same name etc). Still a problem as the installer won't fail on a clean GWX installation, so investigate this possibility too and remove ALL modifications from your game.

Key GWX files were not found. This patch must be installed over a copy of Silent Hunter III containing GWX (with or without existing hotfixes). Please ensure that the selected installation has GWX installed before continuing.

If you don't have GWX installed, you must install it first. If you do have GWX installed, then the installer found files sufficiently modified as to cause problems if GWX 1.02 was installed. Remember what changes you have made and undo them. If you use SH3Cmdr, then you should be adding your specific changes to it for then they will be removed automatically on every roll back and reapplied automatically on every run, thus when things are done right, the game after every rollback will always be pristine and "ready to be patched". Steppenwolf has this spot on a few posts back.

The most common causes for this mistake will be adjustments to Basic.cfg (renown and the like) or forgetting that you unzipped other large mods directly into your installation.

Guys, please remember that the installer is trying to HELP you and SAVE you from problems later on. If you maintain proper housekeeping, you will have NO problems installing the patch, Otherwise, well, reinstalling now is still much better than fault finding later. And watching your game CTD to the desktop after sinking that large warship I guess is not a good feeling.

At the worst you will become more vigilant with your JSGME and SH3Cmdr housekeeping. ;)

Hi Guys,

The patcher is not checking the sh3.exe file.:yep:

As for the Basic.cfg, if you get a copy of this file all you are succeeding in doing is fooling the installer. It is more than likely that you will experience problems further down the way.

Have you read this entire thread? Questions have been answered before.:yep:

I did all of this, even pasted all the mods to another folder. Deleted all the mods in the folder. Then installed 1.02, there was a CTD using a previous career (pre-1.02). However, started a new career and all was well. It must have been something in the old career.

As part of the process I did have an intial problem with random weather, tried user defined and all was fine. Have not had the time to go back again and try random weather through SHWeather. Will do this later.

Anyway, some great suggestions in this thread, as usual GWX rocks:up:

My feeling is that you had the CTD because your career was not a GWX one. Did you start it in GW or any other mod? Usually if this happens there is a high chance of CTD as GWX has changed the flotilla and bases.

No it was a GWX one, I just started it a few days ago. When 1.02 came out I went back to port ( with half my backside ripped off :damn: ), got out of the game and went through the install process with the new update.

Your career sounds like it is a casualty of the patch changes. From the patch 1.02 release post (I have bolded the relevant text):

Compatibility

- Please do not assume that third-party mods compatible with previous versions of GWX are compatible with GWX 1.02. If in doubt, consult the modder.

- Whilst most existing careers will continue to work with GWX 1.02, the sheer magnitude of the campaign changes means that the GWX team can not guarantee that all existing careers will continue to work.

- SH3 Commander users must d/l and install updated GWX config files. D/l http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX...fg4SH3Cmdr.zip (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/GWX102Cfg4SH3Cmdr.zip) and install as instructed.

I was looking for a way to add some messages to the game so when you sent a report to BDU you don't just get the "Keep Up the good work" only and I noticed a file called "new messages only english.txt". I opened it and on top it says "just copy and paste that on your favorite messages file". Should this be appended on "messages_en.txt"? And if yes only when in port between patrols or will it work mid-patrol? I could try the old "try and see" thing but I had quite a few CTD the last couple of days testing the usual assortment of mods and I really like to end this "haunted" 5th patrol of mine without another one :D
BTW SH3 + dual monitors = very often CTD and a significant drop in FPS so anyone wanting to try that I would advice against it.
Keep up the good work

The BdU responses are not part of the messages file that you are looking at. BdU's responses are contained in the **_menu.txt file and are accordingly, by default, the same, everytime.

4196=Contact report received. Good work!
4197=Press the attack!
4198=Keep up the good work!
4199=Return to base!

If you want to randomly vary them, you need to use SH3Cmdr and add the variations to the "Randomised events.cfg" file (there's pervious posts here covering how to do this). You still won't get different messages *during* a patrol (thanks to an SH3 limitation), but you will get different messages after each SH3 reload.

Re your CTD's, it sounds like you have left over modded files in your installation. In http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=105853 I posted what I think is the most efficient way to run SH3 with GWX. You may like to try it.

No big deal, I had just started it. Started another career in 42' out of Lorient with an IXC, first time I was bombed coming out of the bay, intense stuff:up::up:

Will do thanks!
I 've learned my lesson now... I've made two installs (one clean + GWX + some mods I know to work properly and one to experiment). Also a big part of my crashes were due to the fact of the dual monitors I used (one to play and one browse subsim :D ). Unfortunately SH doesn't handle such a config very well.
Oh .. and what about the "new messages Englishg only.txt". For those messages to work must they be appended to "messages_en.txt"?
And sorry about so many questions . Hope I'm not too annoying :)

I have maged to install without difficulties...although it seems like my last patrol went away in my patrol history, but not the tonnage so that's good :88) (I was docked)

Any way I left st.Nazaire now and now I got this big circle shaped metal thing rotating on my beautiful VIIB bridge and I just want to throw it off...what is it?! :88)

Great job modders!

The big rotating Loop on your Bridge is your Radio Direction Finding Antenna, it was stowed a way before now BDU wants you to use it :D

Ok...so what use do I have of it?

What is the meaning of knowing that "oh the britts are transmitting something my way"...maybe that there is a convoy or something at my direction (if you would send from brittain) ? :88)

You dont use it its eye candy, really :)

Use of the Radio Direction Finder is automatic and represented abstractly by some of those contact icons that appear periodically on your F5 Nav Map. This is not new to GWX 1.02, only the physical representation of it on your bridge is new. If you don't like the way it looks, Ref (who created it in GWX) is planning to issue a mod to remove it within the next few days.

If it's the radar warning receiver then it's extremely important because it gives you advance warning of radar signals (which could detect you) in your vicinity. :arrgh!:

I've been waiting to get back into port to install this but I'm getting the "key GWX files missing" issue.

I have made changes to cfg files myself that took a long time. I also remeber manually installing a mod that didn't work with JSGME (something to do with the recoginition manual covers if I remember correctly).

Basically with SH4 just around the corner this means I'm not prepared to put the time in to get my game ready to install this patch (I'd rather enjoy playing the game instead!). I'm happy with it in its current state so this is where I will stay I guess.

Thanks to the GWX for putting the effort in anyway, I really do love the mod.
