At 0436 May 27th U-96 on patrol in grid BE receives an urgent radiogram from BDU.
All Uboats in grid BE proceed to NN BE 56 to assist battleship Bismarck. Expect enemy action by 0800. Our navigator determined that we could reach the general area in 3 hours despite heavy seas and fog.
At 0735 order boat to dive for hydrophone reading, Almost as soon as we settle at depth Contact warship moving fast closing! reports our sonarman. The warship was alone and heading due east. Periscope depth. We observed Bismarck speeding east to escape her pursuers. With no other contacts in the area we surfaced and sped ENE to screen Bismarck from attack.
At 0800 we go down for a Hydrophone reading again. The Sonarman quickly picks up Bismarck but now mobving slow and to the NW. Was she damaged? Was she turning to fight? No time for such worries as we where now tracking four new warship contacts two NE and two to NW closing! Bismarck was steaming straight at the two contacts to NW so we positioned ourselves between the on coming warships and the limping Bismarck. At 0838 we come to periscope depth, Snaping the scope up U-65 sights Rodney and King George the V bearing down on the crippled Bismarck! Rodney is speeding up and turning, she'll pass to close. But King George V passes our bow at a perfect 90 degrees, and 500 yards distance!
Full spread, 2 degree angle, running at 5 meters. Flood and open all outer doors! LOS! The torpedoes all hit within seconds of each other the resulting explosion rocks U-65 and crew members forward report hearing problems for weeks after. Shes going down and now the odds are far more even! however
The three remaining targets are past us now and moving fast. It's up to Bismarck!
Bismarck makes quick work of the Dorchester and Norfolk that tried to close in behind. Now alone Rodney makes a hasty retreat to the NE. We fired two steamers but both miss. We surfaced near Bismarck which was badly damaged to to assist but we were forced down by several flights of swordfish that finished of our giant Brother.:nope: We take on what survivors we can and made a hasty retreat to Lorient.

I remeber reading a post where someone did. But he sank both Rodney and King George. The sword fish from Ark Royal and Victorious finished her off in my encounter. I couldn't man my flak guns due to the sea state. When I was surfaced and near Bismarck the Swordfish would attack me first :rotfl:I tried to let them see me then crash dive to keep them away from Bismarck but It didn't work:doh:
