Have ran out of all options and am looking for help from this group.

Have a completely clean system and have the proper system requirements to run SH3.

Have installed SH3, the 1.4 patch and GWX patch.

Runs perfect with just SH3 and 1.4 patch.
Runs perfect with just SH3, 1.4 patch and Rub 1.45.
However, any other large mod, like Grey Wolves, and the game is so choppy when on the surface, you cannot play.
After much pain and troubleshooting, have narrowed the problem down to one file. When I switch the scene dat file in the data folder, it cures it and everything runs perfectly. However, halfway through my missions, the clouds will disappear and everything becomes completely calm.

Have tried every possible combination. I do want to point out that I am using a laptop, and have even tried this on two different laptops, with the same exact problem! Some am wondering if this is a problem just experienced on a laptop for some reason. Totally confused and looking for a genius to figure this one out......have tried everything I have been able to find on this group........

Please let me know what you think??????

Thank You!!:damn:

First off....welcome aboard kaleun :arrgh!:
Secondly....what are your laptop specs :hmm:

Third....there are plenty of folk around these shores and most problems have already been experienced by others and sorted so post the info and watch the advice come flooding in :yep:

Can we presume you are not trying to use Rub and GWX in the same install :hmm:
If that is the case did you follow these steps before installing GWX ?

Delete any/all SH3 files from C\MyDocuments
Install a clean version of SH3 in C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3
Patched it to 1.4b
Copied the folder and pasted it to whatever drive you wanted.
Renamed the folder ‘GWX’
Installed GWX and ran it. (not forgetting the Dec23rd patch-installed via JSGME)

I've got a laptop as well and it is choppy when you're on the surface, but that's the fault of the integrated graphics card. Check your card first.

Wow, you guys are fast!

Specs on laptop are 1.5 gig of ram
128 mb video card
AMD Athelon 64 3500

Not using multiple istalls. Perfectly clean system. Just installing SH3, 1.4 patch, GWX and the GWX patch. (have good experience with computers....CCNA and A+) Am positive it is not files left behind from previous installs (have even set up a ghost boost to ensure this)

Have verified the proper drivers for graphics card are installed and fully up to date (tried everything on two different laptops to verify its not my hardware). Have also tried every possible video card setting I can think of.........appreciate the feedback thus far....and hoping for more....

as mentioned...seems to be linked to the scene dat file in the data folder

:hmm:

I would recommend starting the game and going to options. Look for particle percentage. Reduce this to say 90%. You will not notice the change in visual quality when playing put I believe it will reduce your videocard's load. Anyway, once you have reduced it you will have to exit the game and restart it so the change will take effect.

You do know that the weather changes every now and then in GWX? IIRC the patrol usually begins with light fog and 4 kilometers/second wind speed.

Have you continued playing to see if the weather changes again? This could take a long while; couple of days to a week or two of game time. I've had entire patrols with heavy fog, heavy rain and 15 kmeters/sec wind speed and I'd love to see complete calm.

How did you determine it was the scene dat file and what did you do to it when you say you switched it?

Yes, I have been playing through many missions and once the weather 'fails' it will stay calm and no clouds (of course, only being playable once I have replaced the scene dat file in the data folder).

I determined it by trial and error, by going through all the files until I say which one caused the chop.

When I say I switched it, I took to scene dat file from eithor the 8km or 16km atmospere mod (depending on which I am using with GWX) and would overwrite the scene dat file in the data folder.

It seems that this is more than likely a matter of trying to run this mod on the laptop...........or is yet to be solved.....but I am curious if 'kpt. Kozloff' found a solution for the chop on his laptop.....

thanks!

Hi,
I need to know what graphics card you have? The name and specs.

Don't know if this will help but it made a difference with me. Check if your graphics card drivers have AntiAlising and/or Anisotropic Filtering on (2x 4x etc) and if yes turn it off. If it is off turn it on (I know it doesn't make sence but my game actualy gains FPS with AA and AF on) . Also as soon as the game starts press repeatedly Shift+PgDown to reduce - turn off the software glare effect. Hope it helps Kaelun

Am really starting to get the vibe that it should be resolveable with the proper video card settings. Have tried many changes before......will try some more with AntiAlising and Anisotropic settings.......

thanks.....

Solution found!!!!!

I Just wanted to pass on the solution as surely other people using a laptop may run into this; that being, lots of choppiness when on the surface.

The solution is to run the Light Harbor Traffic mod!! I put in this mod and everything runs absolutely perfectly!!

Thanks for all the help and feedback......the information that I received here had ultimately led me to the solution....that being, the video card not being able to handle the the 'load' of information......and thanks to Kpt. Kozloff for the research he did on my video card.....this helped me to confirm that because the card is integrated with the board....it could not process the volume of info efficiently.
