I just finished reading "War in the Boats-My WWII Submarine Battles", Capt. William J. Ruhe, USN {Ret}...[Fwd by Tom Clancy]...940.5426 RUHE 1944

Great Read. The best so far of the type. Starts with S boats in Melborne...after having escaped Cavite...

Delightfully accurate about 'life on a real Pig-Boat'...including Cockroaches in the cork insulation of the hull...

Or maybe the new Fleet boats had better insulation and were too new for 'the little devils' ??

Just play for 24-hours straight. You'll see all kinds of things running around.:rotfl:

No, really, that sounds like my kind of book. I'll be sure to check it out.

One ship I was on, I was doing my month as MAA... I remember turning the lights on in the galley and the rumbling of a b'zillion tiny feet, headed back to the cork! Life on a AGB...

Sort of surprising how well stocked this hick-town's library is, for Sea-Faring Folk. We ARE in range of four major USN units, an arm-full of Coastie outfits and a few Merchies, though..

Makes you wonder how the little devils get on the boat in the first place, there would be no food aboard until it was afloat! maybe they climb the ropes like the rats do, and it would only take one!:nope::D

You know how to take care of cockroaches on subs, right?

We take her down and raise the snorkel, turn on all four air breathing diesel engines in a high sea state.

The first time the head valve sticks on the main induction valve your boat will be pulling close to 16# lbs of pressure ... all of a sudden you feel your back door opening ... coming up to meet your throat, because those engines have to get their air from somewhere, even if it's you ...

Varmits leave in a hurry in those conditions ... :yep:

Uh... 'Lines'.. not 'Ropes'... [wink]. Well, according to Capt. Ruhe, one of the guys in S-37 got a barrel of Flit from a store in Brisbane. They sealed up the crew's messdeck and started spraying. The Little Devils tried to get away by running into a drain trough in the deck. When no more came out, the channel was overflowing with dead roaches. The guy took a wooden matchbox, measured it's dimensions, filled it with corpses...counted the number... measured the drain through, did the math and .."Finally he announced the number of dead roaches in the overflow channel. ""Over four million"". "...[page 38]

They hung a fine mesh bug net OVER the mess deck tables so no falling roaches would land in the chow...[pages 19/20]

Very 'real' read... These roach ridden S boats had been at Cavite..across the Bay from Manila, for many years, until scrambling out of these just ahead of the Japs... Lotsa bugs there, man. Hot and humid.

There's just something inherently wrong with the title of this thread. :)

Guys, there are some things that don't need to be modeled in the game. This would be one of them, imo.

All I know is that I will be checking for the correct species and proper antenna-to-thorax ratio of the bugs. If not correct, I will be posting my vitriol until corrected via patch.
