Our friends over at the fantastic German "Marinesims.de" site have produced a page detailing the subs of SH4 including some hot never seen before screenies....

Cool! We've already been discussing this on the 'SH4 Screenshots' thread, but these are new and different too. :sunny:

A link to these was posted in the screenshot thread stickied above a few minutes ago too. We get nothing for a few days, then this. Just sailing around unmolested on a patrol will be fun, with graphics like this. Kudos to the art team and 3D artists over at Ubi's SH4 dev studio. Wondeful stuff this.

If I may say so, I'm really digging those conning tower shots. :|\\

Yep me too... with all of the clutter of the periscope shears etc on US subs, I hope we can actually walk around the tower area to get a good view of the surroundings or at least jump into the lookout position.

Seems as if an Officer is manning the 20mm AA gun on one of the Gato class pics, or is it a NCO?

Ganz gut! Wunderwetter! Schönenbar:up:!

[Drifts off into happiness-induced delirium of pseudo-German babbling]

Seriously, though, it's looking amazing. I love the blue light.

Subnuts, your new sig is kind of big..And kinda pornographic:p

We from Aces of the Deep (www.acesofthedeep.com (http://www.acesofthedeep.com)) and MarineSims (www.marinesims.de (http://www.marinesims.de)) had an invention to an Silent Hutner 4 press event in Hamburg. We will release a short report (first in german) and new screenshots soon!

Her is a new screenshot as an appetizer. ;)

I'm a little worried that all of the surfaced shots we've seen so far have the dive planes folded out. :-?

EDIT: Screenshot above... speechless!

When was this press event dammit!? I could have come over and crashed the party.

Amazing Statue of Liberty model:o. What class of submarine is that below her, by the way?

Oh, and for those posting screenshots: Let's be very careful to post where we get them from, shall we, as CaptainNemo just did.

Looks like a Gato heading north up the Hudson, probably for the Jersey docks. The Battery is right off her starboard, and you can see the tops of Ellis Island just beyond Liberty.

Wow!

Its an balao class sub. ;)

Amazing, no other words for this. Just what I wanted to see :up::up:

1) Blue light in S-class interior?

2) I'm seeing a lot of new sprite effects (water running off?) that don't quite look done but could, potentially, come out rather neat :hmm:

3) Interesting - we have lookouts on different spots of the tower + gunners at the same time...

4) I REALLY love this shot:
http://www.marinesims.de/phpkit/inhalt/sh4/boote/gato-class/gato_screenshot_06.jpg
And is that water coloring reflective of the depth? :hmm:

5) neat angled lighting, if that's indeed what I'm seeing:

I think it may just be the balao's default skin:

Is that an in-game shot or artwork? If it's an in-game shot that would mean we could take command of a sub that's been build at the east coast and sail to our home base. Wouldn't it be neat if we could do such a shake down cruise?

Is that an in-game shot or artwork? Judging by the edge line roughness and jagged edges on the sub, statue and background: I'd say it's a screenshot (AA/AF is obviously off).

Oh, no, I didn't mean that, I was talking about the water!

Look carefully, I think the angled rays might be part of the new shader...

flintlock
02-18-07, 05:55 PM
Ah, OK.

When I look closely, it does appear as though there light rays coming in at an angle. Difficult to be certain without a higher res image. Agree that it's a cool feature if that's what we're in fact seeing.

Outstanding shots!! Now I'm getting real anxious for this sim. I DO hope you can rig in bow planes, though.

Note the darker areas up ahead. It looks like clouds casting shadows on the water. Alternatively it could be some sort of reef.

Graphics are very impressive. I'm very pleased with the interior visuals, like the conning tower ones. I hope the animations look lifelike as well (were a bit stiff in SH3).

And those NY pictures :O great, gives me a reason not to TC so much. Wonder if other harbours have the same stuff.

Btw, imagine a mod where you have german subs (operation drumbeat) sneaking around harbours and sights like that on the east coast.

I don't like this overall Hollywood movie look of all screenshots I have seen so far.
All screens looked to dark, I traveled many years on merchant ships in the Atlantik and Indic Ocean and knows well how it looks like at sea in different weather condition but none SHIV screenshots I seen reflect the real looking.

I hope this is an effect by the post process filters and can be switched off, personaly I want a simulation not a David Hamilton movie.

I bet my hat that one (Statue of Liberty) is ingame. No point in relasing art-screens with no antialiasing. (Strange to show screens without AA anyway?:hmm:)

The darker areas in the screenshot are the cloud formations. I'm some of the guys how actually were in Hamburg ;)

There will be more information when we release our report. If you have any questions then you can ask me or some of the other guys. But for sure we can not answer all questions because we could only play a very limited version of the game. We could only play some single missions.

OMG:o These new screenshots are just stunning:o:o
Take a look at these:
http://marinesims.schumo-kits.de/screens/sh4/sh4eventhh_15.jpg

There is foam where the water meets the port !!

http://marinesims.schumo-kits.de/screens/sh4/sh4eventhh_11.jpg

The sub is near the sea bed (I think): It seems there are also sea weeds and rocks!!!

Omg there actualy are rocks and plants under the sea! :p:p

Thats great news... this means we have to be carful now unlike all the other SH games with a plain sea bottom with absolutly nothing on it.

flintlock
02-19-07, 12:43 PM
It's a little difficult to tell in that last low res shot, but that does look like there's plant life and rocks there. I recall reading somewhere from the devs that the seabed, unlike SH3, would have more detail.

Looks promising.

Judging by the green trees in between the harbour buildings, I'd say it's white sand.
