i know this is probably a stupid question and im sure this would happen in real life, but in the game (with GWX) do merchants spot the bubble trails coming in to hit them?
the reason i ask this is because i think the merchants that ive shot at have increased speed when they must have seen my torps coming in on them because several times i have missed dispite taking careful and accurate speed/AOB/range measurements
thanks

Yes they do see them!
It's even worse with warships, they just accellerate the hell out of the way. That's one reason I like the otherwise slow electrics :know:

Yes, they most definitely CAN spot the bubble wake left by the torpedos (case in point, the torpedo tutorial - if you fire first at the stationary merchant, he hauls ass like crazy to get out of the way).
3 things you can do to help lessen their chances of noticing them until it's far too late:
1. Avoid daytime attacks or anytime visibilty is good. Overcast evenings with slightly choppy seas are best.
2. Try to get as close as possible to give them less reaction time if they do happen to spot one of your eels.
3. your electric torps have a higher malfunction rate but on the plus side you won't have to worry about them leaving a telltale wake; this is useful for daytime attacks/convoy attacks...etc
Hope this helps.:know:

ok cool thanks
i usually still manage to sink em' though even though they do speed up :arrgh!:
its still a little annoying though
Ships that are not escorted 39-40 get in close T1 torps all the way. By 41 best to use T1 at night and use T2 in the day. Convoys night attacks, don't take chances. ;)
