Looking for info on how to edit the GWX files so that I may obtain a XXI boat in 1939, I have tried editing the Basic.CFG files but without any success so far, are there other files I have to edit as well to make this happen?

I know this is a total cheat, but it is my game, so please save the speach ok, thanks.

Are you using Commander? I belive it lets you update. I am too new to run a row boat rather then the VIIC that I gave myself.

Actually, that wouldn't be *TOTALLY* out of the question. The British R Class boats of WWI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_R_class_submarine) had performance that was between the specs of the Type XXIII and the XXI:

9.5 knots surfaced, 14 knots submerged, with 6 bow tubes.

So, the technology was there. All it required was a little imagination on the part of the Kriegsmarine to understand that a submarine with a high underwater speed had tactical advantages, or at the very least was a more survivable boat in combat.

Having said that, even the British didn't recognize what they had - they scrapped almost all of them in the 1920's, and the last one in 1934.

So, if someone wants to try a Type XXI in 1939, I don't fret about it - it could have happened, if the Germans weren't stuck in a WWI mentality as far as U-boats were concerned.

I don't care either, was just joking... each one plays the game as he wants...
Thinking of it, Mk 48 Havcaps and Harpoons would make life easier in the late war...:D

Not really actually. No matter how many Harpoons you carry there will always be a few more Destroyers around to sink you in 1944-45:nope: They are just so many it's impossible to survive:cry:

At least you could operate from a safe standoff distance...:D

PS : I am in the Med in 42 and I can't already find one single merchant not having a DD escort...
