View Full Version : Found S-Class! and it was sunk..
I was returning from patrol to Lorient. Jun 1942.
It was aprox midnight and my lookout reported a warship. I went to the bridge and had a look. Coulnt make out anything. WO reported it was 8kms away. Didnt sound like a destroyer. I decided to investigate.
I eventually got closer to about 3kms and lo and behold; and enemy submarine on the surface. Unfortunately I only had an acoustic torp left in the stern tube, so I mauvered into a position to fire. I hit him in the ass.
I felt truly sorry for those boys as they sank about 150kms sw of Lorient.
Unfortunately i have the new resolution and dont know how to take a screen shot. I had saved about 2 days out of Lorient so I might be able to go back and take shots.
Anyone know how to take screen shots with the upgraded resolution?

what are you talking about? is there a mod to change the 1024*768 to, well, 1600*1200?

O for me, i have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and its "fn F11"
Yeah. if you go to the community manual it explains how you can change the resolution to 1280X1024.. i think thats it.
Anyways, the manual does say just press "print screen" with the new resolution.

Look at this link and check under "display resolution"
I managed to get a screenshot of the s-class when i must have hit print screen to try it out. I will post in a few min.
My first try at posting a hosted image. A night enhanced image of the S-Class.

OK.. I went back to the previous save and searched for the S-Class. I finally found him and took a shot with an acoustic - my last torp.

I just had a run in with an S-class too. Ugly looking sucker that's for sure! (The design, not the model or texture). Its hydrophones obviously work on the surface as he heard me racing towards him submerged and then I discovered he has active sonar (it was Dec 1940)!
I think I'll be giving them a miss in the future though. I only get six torpedoes in my Type IID and this bad boy needed two fish to sink. Definitely not worth it for only 800 tons.

If you were using SH3 Commander all those ships you sank would have names.
Cool that you found an enemy submarine.

They do. I copied and pasted the patrol report from SH3 Commander. For some reason it lost the formatting. Note the Black Swan I ambushed and sank, HMS Peacock. For some strange reason she crusied directly towards me in flat-calm waters at 2 bells of the afternoon watch(hehe 1300hrs) doing 12 knots. I was at silent running and fired an electric at 2400m. Boom.

Here you have it with full AA and AF:

I have yet to see a S-Class in the game. Ive seen Gatos and Balos but not these charming little basterds. So good going!
Good one, Gildor mate! :up::up::up:
Here is some pics from a rendevouz i had with one of those tiny tubes:

You're right. I apologize. I just noticed that the whale factory ship didn't have one, and that led me to not look closely enough at the others. D'oh!
No apologies are necessary at all. I never noticed that whaling ships don't have names either.

I sunk an S-Class in May of 1940. Found her cruising on the surface doing 7 knots in a heavy storm at night, in good old BF13.
Her watch didn't seem to have spotted me, so I went to flank, still on the surface, and set up a "fast 90" intercept like I would any other ship. If she had hydrophones that worked on the surface like another poster mentioned she wasn't using them, that's for sure, because I was absolutely pounding along about 6000m out.
She went down from a single torpedo set shallow, just behind the conning tower. Took forever to sink.
I was thinking as I was setting up for the shot - what if she dives? I have no way of engaging underwater targets - I can't tell target depth! Made me realize for the first time that U-Boat combat is completely on a flat plane - the surface - even if we are just beneath it.
Also, do S-Class subs (and U-Boats in general) have inflatable life rafts? It was a typically ugly night, but she had plenty of time to get anyone who was still left alive after the torpedo impact out of there. That must be quite a shock - cruising along in a tiny metal tube, thinking about "subject number one" and then without warning the noise and chaos of the explosion. Anyway, made me wonder.

Oh well i 've tried to make some sig from Corrupt_file and Gildor screenies. I do not intend to use them unless they've given their permission. Here they are:

Hmmmm, I just came here to ask how many people have sunk enemy subs but I'm glad I used the search function before starting a new thread.
I had SH3 since it came out and only yesterday encountered my first enemy sub (S Class). I hit it with a torpedo even though it was swerving. It wasn't enough to sink it so I surfaced and gunned it. It cost me 2% hull integrity but it was worth it. It was at the beginning of my patrol so I have a while to go before I can celebrate it as a part of my tonnage.
Okay, off to the Western Approaches (AM 47).

Well the S-Class was only added in GWX. And I have sunk 4 Gato/Balo class subs. :smug:
