All we need to find is a mail bouy
Two weeks till payday I hope I'm number 2,999 :yep:
P.S. This is a good omen that the game is close to going gold, don't you think?
DONE , i ordered 2 just in case i lose one :88)
come to think of it i allready ordered the norlmal game twice , so I'll have 4 games :hmm:
Well I shouldn't be too worried, my credit card payment just went through.
It's actually a whole buch of useless but pretty cool stuff... couldn't resist though. No idea what I'm going to do with this "medal". And what's with the slogan Hunt, Hide, KILL! Especially unsettling when they tell us that should be our motto when getting this collectors edition. :o

Pity ... because the year 2012 is suppose to have some sort of world wide climactic disaster, according to a program on History channel about Bible Code.

I'm making this a sticky :) Good Morning Neal. Hope your haveing your first cup of coffee like I am as were roughly in the same time zone. :D I'm haveing large concerns about so many Editions being offered by UBI on their different sites. I preordered alittle
over a week ago and it didn't even come close to looking like the one posted on this thread. I also find it hard to beleive that there is only 3000

from you but Amazon and myself and American Express are not on a freindly basis. I'd hope you can use your contacts at UBI to see whats up with all the different Editions and find out who is getting what in USA ,UK

That SH4 SCE looks great! Unfortnatley it looks like you can only order it from the UK store at the moment. While that's great for Europeans, it's not as ideal for those on the North American continent. Any watch officers spotted the SCE for order elsewhere?

Hi flintlock Take a look at my post above. I have the same concerns. Four cups of java, huh? I enjoy my coffee as much as the next submariner, but four cups would have me wired and awake for the next 48 hours.
I'm a little confused about the availabilty of the SCE. It's my understaning that this specific edition will be available exclusively via Ubisoft. The CE editions will be available from Ubisoft and all other retailers. I'm just hopeful that the SCE will be available to order from Ubisoft in North America.
And on that note, time for a caffeine fix.

Yes, it can be shipped anywhere in the world when you buy from the Ubi store directly. I went through the order process until I saw that the final price (for me) to the US would be 74.99 GBP (~$147 :o ). I decided that it wasn't worth that much.
Here's hoping for US ordering availability. :ping:

I stopped myself from buying Guild Wars Factions CE, but the line is drawn at SH4. I had to do it atleast once in my life time. Plus, I?m currently loaded with cast and needed to spend some. ;)
It's 49,99 pounds, which is around 74 euros. I don't know if I calculated this correctly.
I'm happy and euphoric. I might even consider playing manual targeting with such a nice recognision manual.
What about the normal manual. Will it be an ebook or a printed version?
Oh, and I think I know why the badge has a moderen sub on it. Notice that it has SH 42 written. Maybe they will be making this game for the next couple of centuries? But I'd guess that subs would chage in that time.
I'm sure the normal manual is printed just like the SH3 one was.
And manual targeting is the only way to play!
As for the logo with the modern sub... a bit of a cock-up. 42 is probably meant to be 1942. But none of the pictures of the collectors edition were real, the whole thing was a computer mock-up. So we can hope that all hasn't been finalised.
flintlock
02-15-07, 02:33 PM
US would be $147. I decided that it wasn't worth that much. As nice as the SCE looks, your US converts to $171.00 CAD (that's without shipping costs and possible duty). :o
Here's hoping for US ordering availability. Indeed. I'm not holding my breath though as Ubi's US site, at least at the moment, offers only the standard edition for $49.99.

The Deluxe Edition of SH4 has a limited run of only 3000 copies worldwide. It will only be available form Ubi's UK store.
Here's the breakdown in price for those in the US and Canada:
Canada: ... cost is approx $170.53 CAD
US: ...........cost is approx $146.42 USD
-----
The breakdown from Ubi's UK store is as follows:
£49.99 (SH4 DE)
£25.00 (shipping)
£11.17 (17.5% VAT) Yes, they're charging it, though it's included in the price.
-----
So that's £74.99 converted to either USD or CAD currency.
Not an inexpensive prospect for a package that would likely retail for around $59.99 USD, albeit, it is a very nice package.
That SH4 SCE looks great! Unfortnatley it looks like you can only order it from the UK store at the moment. While that's great for Europeans, it's not as ideal for those on the North American continent. Any watch officers spotted the SCE for order elsewhere?

Well technically SH4 DE is offered to everybody. You just have to pay a lot more for it.

You are correct. I forgot about the 17.5% VAT . Once I saw £25 FedEx shipping costs, I knew I could live without these extras.
I'll opt to spend that extra money on History on CD-Rom's scans of ONI 208-J and ONI 208-J (Revised) Recognition Manuals to compliment the MS Word docs of S. Komimaya's Wartime Transportation Convoys History that I have. These will be more valuable to me in research purposes alone than an "in-game" recognition manual, a mousepad, and a notebook/pen. :ping:
flintlock
02-15-07, 05:10 PM
Looks like a wise decision, Donner. While the DE certainly looks nice, I'd be paying almost as much for shipping, VAT and duty combined, then I would for the actual cost of DE package. Now I know how Europeans feel when they have to order a title only available from North America. On this front, the poor Australians often get the shaft too.
Nah, and the fact that it's released a week later...
Unless we get a North American release of this, I'm not paying that much to get the same game a week late :dead:
flintlock
02-15-07, 05:15 PM
A week late?
You have better luck than I. The only thing I can safely say that's predictable with Canada Customs - is that they're unreliable. A crapshoot unfortunately, at least this has been my experience.
Personally, I wanted a hardcore useful recognition manual, a big pacific map, and some conversion charts with time/distance etc, useful for stalking/plotting. I have some WW2's I printed for SH3 that do knots to distance and they were very useful.
But this recog manual has nice 3D renders instead of proper linedrawings from all angles like in SH3. It looks pretty but it's not very useful for identification :damn:
As for the rest, I didn't care so much. I shall acquire the standard version - money is short for me these days. It's great that they listened and put together mega packs like this for the people who wanted it though.
EDIT: now pre-ordered the European "Collectors Edition", which was minimally more expensive than the regular version. From a Swedish online store. The retailer says it contains, in addition to the normal stuff:
* More elaborate box
* Map
* Collector's Images (?!)
* Soundtrack
The map was standard with SH3, and it proved useful at times. Just a tad bit small.. 4x the size would have been better. Looks like the standard version in Sweden is without the map. Only a 4$ difference in price between standard and collectors. The Super duper collectors mentioned in this thread costs wayyy more.

It's great that they listened and put together mega packs like this for the people who wanted it though.I agree, it's great they bundled a package like the DE. My only gripe is it would've been a nice gesture to extend it to more of your community, rather then have those not living in Europe required to order from the UK.
Ah well, can't win 'em all.

My contacts at Ubi won't discuss this with me. I'm not even sure Ubi knows what they are doing with all these different versions and shops. I think it's right hand not knowing what the left is doing, a marketing perfect storm. I think this is designed to get everyone to preorder five different versions

Packaging Contents!
Wednesday 01/31/07 - When Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific is released, every copy of the game will include premium bonus material for a limited time! We asked our community members what they wanted, and crammed every single little thing that we could into the packaging just for you guys! Wanna know what's in it? Check out the list below:
· Premium Packaging
· 100+ page manual including reference material
· Fold-out historical map of the Pacific theater
· Fold out ship recognition poster
· Quick Reference Card
· 1-hour of WWII-era documentary footage about U.S. submarines from Periscope Films on a Bonus DVD
You guys told us what you wanted, and we tried our very best to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase!

Just a quick note about the Super Collectors Edition.
I guess you already know, but for players from outside Europe please note that the documentary dvd which is part of the bonus material is region 2 (Europe) only, at least from the uk ubisoft online shop.
I live in Italy, so there is no problem with it, but please consider this when pre-ordering!

You can set any DVD player to be region free by a simple combination of commands on the remote.

You can set any DVD player to be region free by a simple combination of commands on the remote.
Yes, sure, but, please correct me if I'm wrong, an NTSC (US) format dvd-player must be able to read a PAL (Europe) format dvd
Actually I'm pretty sure I may have played region 1 DVDs on one originally meant for region 4, but I could be wrong. The difference in PAL and NTSC for a DVD player is as quick as changing a menu setting. Some do have this option, but I think unlocking the player might free this up permanently for some.
EDIT: I'm sure it works, it was a Kindergarten Cop DVD I bought over ebay from the US. It worked in my unlocked DVD player bought in Australia.

Just for clarification, there is no "amazon collectors exclusive" that you refer to. It's the regular game (not the collectors edition or the deluxe edition) with all the extras that will be shipped initially. All SH4 boxes in the US and Canada will come with the little extras for a while after the game launches. At some point Ubi will remove some or all of these extras.

True but they want to make profit. But as a proud member of Subsim I wouldn't order 2 Deluxe Editions, because it's just unfair! And ordering a second DE that you don't plan to use is just.... Again, to be fair, the poor sod you mention above is free to order his copy from Ubisoft today too (just like kc23 and others). Also, some people are just hardcore fans. Maybe kc23 wants use the Deluxe Edition contents as soon as it's available, and just likes to have a new sealed tin box to display (I don't know, ask him).
The only thing unfair would be if Ubi (while they still have copies available) would refuse to sell a customer a single copy, while turning around and selling other customers multiple copies. Right now, everyone and anyone is free to order a DE copy if they choose. Seems pretty fair to me.

50 Pounds plus 25 Pounds delivery from UK = $134 US. It seems the Deluxe Edition in the metal box can only be had from Ubi UK. The limited edition will be fine, even though I suspect the Premium Packaging just means that you get a box. Some things in the Deluxe Edition and on the game disk seem odd. It looks like the disk logo and the special coin emblem are of a modern Typhoon class sub, which will remain a curiosity.
I'll just pay my $50 US and get the Limited Edition through Amazon @ Neal's link for Subsim, unless Amazon never gets their act together for Neal.:ping:
Limited Edition includes bonus materials:
Premium Packaging
100 page manual including reference material
Fold-out historical map of the Pacific theater
Fold out ship recognition poster
Quick Reference Card
1-hour of WWII-era documentary footage about U.S. submarines from Periscope Films on a Bonus DVD

I don't think Ubi makes any money off of shipping or the extra tax (whatever that is) or the money exchange rate ... it makes sense to me that the DE out of the Ubi UK or Ubi overseas is going to sell to people over there and offer the same deal over here through the Ubi store USA ...
Simply due to the mark-up retail stores were going to get now belongs to Ubi instead of Best Buy, Wal-mart, etc. Can't blame them for that.
But because the game doesn't come out till March 22nd in Europe is why they are getting a DE maybe or any number of reasons, but good ole USA is not going to be left out ... we are a good sized market.
DE or CE or standard when they run out of extra's to put in the box is the option list I see right now ...
Most of the people that are going to buy SH4 haven't even heard of it yet ...

Crow, just because you have the 'right' to do it, doesn't make it ethically correct. Not all that is legal is right.
In this case, though, I see it as a bonus SH4 sale, which is good, as the person wanting the superduper deluxe version but can't because it ran out, will undoubtebly buy another version.
And more sales means Destroyer Command-ish stuff, SH5 etc.

Hypthetical situation: Someone richer than you buys up an entire line of a small series (like this edition) for himself. 2999 big fans of the series have to do without, even though they could easily afford to buy one copy each.
The richer person deprived the others through his actions, being aware of these consequences.
It is indeed legal, but I wouldn't say it's very ethical.
However, one cannot completely blame the rich person - the producer of the collectors item could produce more copies to fill the demand. And then the case of getting more sales totally due to the actions of the rich person (which benefits all in the future). :D
Well, at least the first person to miss out knows who to be angry at :rotfl:

50 Pounds plus 25 Pounds delivery from UK = $134 US.
Be aware that £11.17 of that £74.99 is VAT, which Ubisoft is charging everybody who orders from the UK online store even though under UK law it is not applicable to sales outside the UK and the Isle of Man.
I queried Ubisoft about this and their ridiculous response amounted to the UK Ubisoft online store is actually based in France and French law requires the collection of VAT regardless. This is utter nonsense. When you purchase from the UK store you are charged in pounds and charged the UK rate of VAT (17.5%), not the French rate (19.6%). Since Ubisoft are now playing the "let's ignore him and see if he goes away" game, I have contacted HM Revenue & Customs about this but I am still awaiting their reply. I do know that it is possible to get VAT rebated under certain circumstances.

If you haven't heard, Subsim is giving away one of these $$$ expensive colletor's packs. Contest details here. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=429119&posted=1#post429119)
I imagine there will be 10 or 20 people who will take the time to enter the contest so your chances are pretty good!

You need not confirm the order via email, though you should receive an email confirmation of the order.

Ordered mine this morning!
The SH4 Special Collectors Edition for £50 from the Ubi shop website.
Said there were 938 left in stock as of 1st March - doesn't show how many are still available as of today though - hope my order goes through OK, although it does give me a confirmation on their site.
Not long now........

I'm sure if they aren't sold out by release day, they will be shortly thereafter.

The UK Ubisoft Community Manager has recently posted on the subject of UK VAT at the Ubisoft forum. Unfortunately, it's a load of twaddle. It seems Ubisoft is determined to keep doing the wrong thing by its customers. I have included his entire post and my response:
Originally posted by Ubi_Rickas:
Sadly any orders taken outside of the UK when purchasing a UK product will include VAT. As when purchasing from any UK site VAT is always included in the purchase.
I don't know where you got your information but as a matter of UK and EU law it is simply wrong.
I have from time to time bought products online from the UK, from sites like Amazon.co.uk and Sendit.com. Since I live outside the EU I have never been charged UK VAT from any UK online site except Ubisoft's.
As an example of how it should work according to the law, I quote from the UK Amazon web site:
VAT for EU customers outside the UK
Amazon.co.uk is required by law to collect VAT on orders for goods (including e-Books) dispatched to most countries within the European Union. For EU customers outside of the UK, amounts of VAT charged are in accordance with the local legislation in each country.
Customers outside of the EU
Goods sold by Amazon.co.uk that are dispatched to addresses outside of the European Union are generally not subject to EU VAT.
The fact is that Ubisoft's "UK" online store both charges the wrong rate of VAT to EU customers outside the UK (VAT on software & PC & video games is not applicable for Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia; other EU countries have different VAT rates, sometimes less than 17.5%, sometimes more) and improperly charges UK VAT to customers like myself outside the EU, to whom it is simply inapplicable.
I strongly suggest you revisit this with your management and this time get appropriately qualified advice, perhaps starting with HM Revenue & Customs (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/).
