So besides the AA and the deckguns and the torpedos, did the u-boats have small arms on board. I read that in the beginning of the war u-boats often inspected merchant vessels looking for war supplies, so they had to carry some k98s or MP30s.
I know in Das Boot the captian had a P38, now im assuming that all captains had a side arm avaibled should a crewmember turn wussy.

I would imagine that u-boats carried a small arsenal of weapons, perhaps something like this.
15-20 Mauser K98s
5-10 Submachine Guns, MP30s or MP40s depending on the year
5-10 Pistols for officers and warrant officers
1-3 Light machine guns, MG32 or MG42 for extra backup in a close fight with a armed merchant vessel.

And these weapons wouldnt be used just for fighting, lets say the u-boat docks in a neutral port. The weapons would be assigned to crewmembers that guard the ship.
what do you guys think about it?

later some uboats carried a gyrocopter type kite for spotting
and research was done where a uboat was fitted out with
a type of multiple rocket launcher to bombard new york
and intimidate america into surrender lots of neat things.

I hope he meant V1s. The V2 was nearly as big as a u-boat.
