The warships are all arranged by nation.
The merchants are all in the first book. I forget the name, but it doesn't have a flag.
Once a book is open there is a button on the upper right to flip top and bottom panes, and a button to flip pages, and a button to close the book so you can select another.

"Handelschiffe"
Literally means "Handle Ships", or cargo ships.

Wouldn't it rather be in English "Trade ships"?

Nope. Freighters, Cargo Ships or Sausage Haulers  .

An alternative (but only if your looking at the ship in periscope view) would be to press the 'lock target' button....unless your on nearly 100% realism :arrgh!:

A quick way to find the ship you're looking for is to click on the 'Ship' tag in the notepad on the top right hand side in the periscope screen. This brings up the correct page of the recognition manual. Very useful when you're attacked by a DD 600m away and due to the odd AOB you want to know it's draft so you can fire a magnetic torpedo, without having to go through all the manual:yep: :arrgh!:

Now that, sir, is a useful tip. I can't count the number of times I've been frantically paging through that damnable guide looking for keel depths while sitting in the middle of a convoy.

Second that, thanks for the tip, I almost wore out the mouse button the last time I got caught out, feverishly trying to find out the draft!!

Ah, but think how realistically you've been playing. Watch The Enemy Below and see Curt Jurgens leaf through the book until he says "Escort vessel, Class Buckley"!:rotfl:
