4 years ago practically outlawed in the USA, look at the chicks now...
Not that I am familiar with their music, or remotely care ;) but it's kinda funny in a remote way

Nice to see. The foundation of democracy is free speech:up:
They became quite unpopular if that is what you mean...

Country music as well as radio stations in general still don't play their music much anymore and because of Natalie's stupid little antics last night, radio will be playing them even less. It's really too bad she never learned how to be a lady. It's just a shame, because I had enjoyed some of their music in the past.

Free Speech caries some downside. If you say something someone or some group of people don't like, they may react.
The real problem is if government decides what you can say or not say. The United States has had this problem in the past (Lincoln suspending individual rights in 1860; the infamous sedition act of Wilson in 1918).
The Dixie Chicks weren't outlawed; they just pissed off the wrong people who just happened to be their base. They are "country" and most country fans are conservatives and take offence with any criticism.

The same thing happened to The Beatles back in 1966, when John Lennon observed that they were "more popular than Jesus".

Getting "Whacked" with a Grammy (http://wizbangblog.com/2007/02/11/getting-whacked-with-a-grammy.php).
And so I leave this uninteresting thread.

Long live the chicks, and anybody else like them:up:

The Grammy's are BS, put out by the industry itself to promote it's own music (much like Soviet leaders who heaped medals upon themselves). The Dixie Chick's self-imposed spiral into obscurity continues...:88)

Comparing the Grammy's to Soviet Leaders:o
14 Grammies, 3 AMAs, and a movie deal... they must be doing something right :hmm:

Such a spiral into obscurity that they merit their own thread on subsim.
Comparing the Grammy's to Soviet Leaders:o
In fact in my view, that comparison would even favour towards the latter :rotfl:

and in this case, well they're a bunch of youngish, relatively ok looking females, in an industry where the major players are still men.
i leave you to draw your own conclusions...:hmm: :|\\
My conclusion is that since they've managed to top the charts in sales at least once since their disparaging remarks about Bush (horrors! they broke the sacred country music sterotype!) they're doing something right :D
And I expect as Bush's approval rating slides lower and lower that they will find themselves on an upswing in the U.S.

History will prove that the rednecks were right and anyone with a microphone can share their viewpoints in our country
(although they exercised their freedom of speech act in the UK).
Radio stations make their living off of advertising and the people listening didn't like our president being talked about in that fashion in a foreign land ...
the reaction was a knee jerk that doesn't end because they won some awards for being good singers.
My necks not red, but I love my president and my country ... Time will have it's say, but a couple of guys living inside of caves is not going to ruin our day. What President Bush has done and is doing is a okay with me ...
Keep up the good work President Bush ...
People sitting in their comfortable living rooms making over $50,000 a year, driving nice cars, eating like kings and queens shouldn't be allowed to answer survey questions.
Being President is not an easy job, especially with a woman standing in line behind you holding her grandchild telling you she and her party are not going to support you, because of public opinion in an election year and another woman running for president trying to explain why she voted for us to go to war.
I ran out of steam ... what's the use. Let history decide ...
I can barely win an arguement with my own son on this
and he is a redneck ... lol
