Just remember, boys: Since this is GWX, odds are you're only gonna last one more patrol after this one. So don't get too attached to your boat or crew. ;)

Also... F16 Falcon?
I'm sorry but that's just gotta go. People in these parts don't care too much for you fancy flyboys and your A-VEE-A-TOR shades...
Time to trade in your Top Gun attitude for a little Das Boot cunning and stealth.
Deeeep....Deeeeeper still....

F16 & TinSoldier!
Welcome to the WAR. Be careful, play it safe. Stealth, cunning & deep water are your friends. (:rotfl: :rotfl: you won't find deep water in a canoe). Make Onkel Karl proud, sink some ships but come back safely. Read the GWX manual and visit my site for a few useful pointers.
Happy hunting!

I will not join the 'Dead after 2nd Patrol Club'! I hope.
First patrol went ok. Came across a Large Merchant at the top of the big channel that leads out into the Atlantic. A 7,000 tonner, a pretty nice early find I thought to myself. It was a clear sunny day. I should have went farther out ahead of her before turning in to attack, but I was excited and impatient! I had to dive too early to avoid being detected. First shot was from quite a ways out, 3800m i think, it missed. Now she knew she was being hunted and was zig-zagging. Although I could have surfaced and got in quite a bit closer as there was no one but me and her around, I stayed submerged. I got in a little closer, about 2800m, and decided take take a chance and fire off a shot even though she was zig-zagging and I was still a little ways out. Scored a hit towards the front of her bow and after a few minutes she was slowing down. After a couple more minutes she slowed even further to just a few knots. I remained submerged and after several more minutes put another into her. Took around 8 minutes for the 'she's going down' celebration! :D I went to my patrol grid(AN56) and completed my 24 hours of duty there.
Then I went down a bit to where I was a little ways out from the coast between Hartlespool and Hull. It was dark out now with 10m/s winds, medium fog, and very cloudy with a fair amount of lightening in the sky. After a while I came upon a Pyro Ammo ship by submerging every so often, listening in on the hydrophones, and then chasing the contact down. I though 'w00t, I'll be doing pretty good if I can score a second 7,000 tonner for my first patrol!' I dove down to periscope depth. First shot was lined up as good as they can be, and was a dud. Now I had another zig-zagger. But I was in pretty close. Took the second shot, which could have been lined up a little better, and it bounced off, or else it was another dud. Third torp hit her and started a small fire on deck but hardly slowed her down nor did much of anything else. No deck gun on my duck!! I stayed sumberged and followed her a little while but she didn't slow down any further. Since I was out of torps I headed back to base.
While a little disappointed I didn't score the second ship I was happy to have a 7,000 tonner under my belt for the first time out. :)
And WOW, GWX is a sweet mod! Huge difference and a huge tanks to the GWX team!
Cheers all

That report is uncannily like some of the real life reports from 'duck' patrols :yep:

Day two and all is well guys, nothing to report as yet....i just know things are gonna heat up a little later on. Crew joviant, weather good....orion looks so beautifull under the moon.....U5 is responding to every command, shes a fine vessel if a little cramped for some of the guys. Moral is good...anticipation is building to the event of attack. If we last only two patrols we will go down fighting and with honour! but that is yet to come....

Wise U-Boat Captain say "If Bernard is on your boat, your boned." :ping: ;)
I like Steed's and Warhawk's optimism.
Good reports, Chaps. Onkel Karl's shooting torpedo recommendation: Shoot from 600 meters or closer with an AOB not greater than 80-100 degrees.

Magnetic torps are prone to misfiring, especially when they're first introduced.
Also, the closer you are, the more chance you have of hitting your target. Just remember to leave yourself at least 300m for the Torp to arm itself.
Good luck Herr Kaleun!
