Shouldn't SH4 have gone gold by now if its going to make the release date or is it usually a couple of weeks in advance. if it actually going to make the release date when should it turn gold?

Tis a little strange... when do games generally go gold?

I was kind of thinking about now or at least in the next week or 2

It may be a while yet. Going gold typically denotes that the software is complete and copied to a master, which in turn is sent for dulplication (manufacturing).

Ahh, the calm before the storm...so many anxious subsim captains impatiently kicking pebbles around the dock, waiting to board their new boats. :)

I think the general practice is 2 weeks. So I'd expect it going gold by March 1st.

Gold is rare but I do love it so :yep: .

Gone Gold may not be announced until very shortly before the actual release. Or maybe not announced at all just to keep us nervous.

Amazing how standards differ. In the music industry "going Gold" means a record has sold 100,000 copies.

I believe SH3 became available around 18-Mar-05 (at least in North America), at least that's the day I purchased my copy, and Ubi's press release of it going gold was on 02-Mar-05. Just for comparative purposes.

In the music industry "going Gold" means a record has sold 100,000 copies. In the US (it differs from Country to Country), unless it's recently changed, the Gold threshold I believe is 500,000 for albums and singles.

at Ubi they got the magical time unit called "2 weeks". For those who know Il2 series it is well known. Two weeks, be sure...

Lol, I remember the infamous "2 weeks!"

Just a reminder to all folks out there - dose of reality actually - AFAIK no game ever ships on its originally scheduled release date... :(

I'm from the US, but I admit my information may be as much as forty years out of date...it used to be 100,000, and platinum was one million.

I wouldn't expect SH4 to go gold until the first week of March. :D

Somehow i got a feeling that this game is also full of bugs just like SH3  I wait until couple of paches are out, before i buy the game.

So what your saying is you are going to let us do the beta testing for you?

:D :D

Since the game engine is the same as SH III, maybe there will not be a lot of bugs this time around. :ping:

I wait until couple of paches are out, before i buy the game. Hey, and that's your right. As much as most everyone here is eagerly anticipating SH4's release, I believe the vast majority are realists, and accept some bugs are more than likely going to sneak through the beta testing phase. If I had your willpower, perhaps I'd wait too. There's just no way I could sit idly by as others post in-game screenshots and patrol reports etc. Nah, just couldn't do it. ;)

I honestly don't think it will be like SH3. I think SH4 is in much better shape. I don't mind adding a patch...four I had a problem with.

I know the game will have bugs and problems when it comes out. I pray they won't be as bad as SH3. (For the life of me I still can't understand how some of those bugs were not taken care of in the first iteration of SH3...didn't the devs play their own freakin' game?!) I'm really looking forward to this. Mind you, I don't believe it will come out on "time" but when it does I'm going to be there eager to get it in my hot little hands....

It shows contiued dev/publisher support, and doesn't always simply address bugs. Sometimes patches add game enhancing features and introduce new content. All reasons why I like patches!

Mind you, of the four that Ubi released, one was basically a botch, 1.3 or something I believe. It was the patch that broke the sonar and watch crew in identifying potential targets. Most people uninstalled it, but I recall that patch added stuff too, the camera locking onto your moving sub and ships was one of these welcomed additions.

But I digress.

Sadly that is becoming the norm with new games.. Bf2 had tons of problems for example.

A lot of these, I wonder how nobody caught them. :damn:
