Could you be more specific? Or better draw a diagram on how your network is setup.
I am a cable/internet tech and not 100% sure on your ADSL ..but If it is directly connected to the server I am guessing it is "Bound" to the Mac address of that machine, and wont work on another...if you have a router inline "first" then split to both machines you should be fine ..if your server is connected directly to the dsl modem and you are networked through a second ethernet card so you can share files etc. computer to compter then I am guessing also you may be able to "share" the servers internet connection if it is specified in the Network settings somewhere that ,that is what you want to do TCP/IP settings etc...sounds like though you may be in over your head there...best thing to do is contact your ISP and have them do it right for ya.... :) or screwing around you may knock your server off line...
I will try to explain the setup:
1) I have 2 computers linked over Lan via a 100mhz hub, this is working ok for filesharing & playing lan games etc. (Loca Area Connection 1 - tcp/ip 192.168.0.1)
2) I have an ADSL connection using a USB router, connected to what has to be the Host. (Local Area Connection 2)
3) I have ticked ICS in the Local Area Connection 2.
4) The client has Local Area Connection 1 only (tcp/ip 192.168.0.2).
I hope this helps.:yep:
Thanks.
PS. When client is trying to connect to web the bottom left corner displays:
Connecting to site 66.102.7.104 - who knows what the heck this is????

Do ipconfig /all on system trying to connect to web. It might be DNS.
I never tried sharing web connection, but under advanced options in Local Area Connection option, it has settings to enable sharing.

Sorry but don't know what ipconfig or DNS is, are you referring to host or client?
Also running zonealarm, should this be activated on the client, or does it use the host's?
This is frustrating!!

Do this on system that is trying to connect to web.
go to start- RUN and type CMD, then type ipconfig /all
Here is the results on client:

Due to sensative material I have deleted the images, mainly because I found the problem.
Thanks.:yep:
Well it looks like it must be a hard one to fix! Thanks for trying though.:yep:
Cheers.
If anyone else can shed some light on this please help!

I'm guessing the problem is like all DSL connections.
You have a login/password. If you plug your Router in and go through the setup hoops, it should pull the DSL login info off of the computer you had hooked up before and log in for your whole network. If it doesn't either you don't haven it plugged in properly, set up the router improperly, or you just got a ****ty router. I kinda doubt the last one in most cases.
I'm a cable advocate... no login & no resident software.
Presuming you're using XP, have a look here:
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/ (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/)
I was trying to do the same and then decided to buy a router with a DSL WAN connection (DG834G) which has the benefit of Wireless connectivity for our laptops and it means I don't need to leave the host PC on all the time. I picked it up on ebay for about £45.

Perhaps I skipped some of the posts here, but if you have a router, you don't need a host PC. The router will do it for you.
?
Hi I have gone through completely with both of the following links & both come up with the same results.
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_xp
http://xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4150-1754853,00.html
I can access the internet on the Host PC & can share files over the Lan on either host & client, but the client will not access the internet, I can try on the client with, or without a firewall, makes no difference???:-?
Am checking your link now lesrae, but not holding my breath!
Frustrated big time!
Edit: wouldn't have a clue about any of this, way over my head!!
WARNING #2: Don't enable ICS if any computer in your network is configured as a domain controller, DHCP server, or DNS server. Don't enable it if another computer is running ICS or Network Address Translation (NAT).
WARNING #3: To enable ICS, you must be logged on as a user that is a member of the Administrators group.
WARNING #4: If you establish a Virtual Private Networking (VPN) connection while sharing a different connection, the client computers won't be able to access the Internet until the VPN connection is ended.
I think I should just give up & say it's impossable!!
Bye.

Back. I have to sleep sometimes :D It was just one of those times ;)
From those pictures, it seems that DNS isnt setup properly.
Lets test that out.
On first system (the one trying to connect) go Start > Run. Type CMD. Then type ping www.google.com
If that gives you error, than type ping 66.102.7.104. If that doesn't work, you have no connectivity. And it's not DNS issue.
( I assume here that you already enabled sharing on server)

Is this how your network is still setup or have you changed things around since posting that message?
I'm not certain you need the hub. With both PC's connected to the router ,it should not only network the 2 PC's as well as share the internet connection to both.Without the need for Windows ICS.
I think I should just give up & say it's impossable!!
Bye.
Quit being a dork and call your ISP and have them set it up for you since you are obviously in over your head...if you are on a hub a hub is not the same as a router...I think you must have a hub and what you are calling a router is the dsl modem..not a router...it will only work probably on the mac address of the main computer...if you have a Real Router then you can "Spoof" the mac address of the ethernet card in the machine that is able to get onto the internet ...to the router ,and viola a network is created...
Quit being a dork That's not very nice Iceman!:D If you had just spent 12 hours trying with no success you might be a little frustrated too!!:yep: I have a single port USB router connected to the net and a 100mhz ethernet hub for the the lan connection.
CptSimFreak, I tried both the first failed & the second made 4 attempts all failed!
Malefactor, the USB router is supplied by my ISP & is a single port el-cheapo!, however it still should work and is the setup in both of these addresses:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_xp
http://xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4150-1754853,00.html
I have cooled down a little but still no connection!!:-?
I don't know if it helps but this is from my ISP's site:
ADSL settings
encapsulation type (retail plans): PPPoE
multiplex: LLC
VPI/VCI: 8/35
IP address: Automatically
Thanks.
Something has to be working, if I go to either the Client or Host Network Connections - Local area connection 2 properties - advanced - settings, there is a list, on mine they are all unticked, the funny thing is if I tick for example the bottom item Web Server(HTTP) then ok the other PC reflects the change also, so the PC's are talking to each other.
Another thing I noted on the Host is that the ICS is set on Local area connection 2 - the USB router, I tried changing to the Local area connection 1 - the ethernet card, and the clients Local area connection 2 dissapears, obviously doesn't like it!!:-?
Well there goes another 4 hours, still no good!
Seems that Zonealarm works fine on client but ICS will not work with zonealarm 4 on Host, will look for an update or another firewall program, don't trust windows firewall!
Thanks to those who helped.
Cheers Reece.
Edit: for others who read this I just found that zonealarm will work on Host with ICS:
On Host zonealarm, go to firewall - Main - Advanced - and in ICS set the third one down "This computer is an ICS/NAT Gateway, local address apeared hear automatically for me.
I also ticked the option at bottom. "Suppress alerts..."
Hope this is a help to others!
